Hay guys i really need some advice

I've been on propecia (5 yrs) minoxidyl 9% (5 yrs) and keto shampoo (1 yr). I've been able to keep some good coverage for the last 4 yrs but at the beginning of the 5th i noticed some recession in the right temple, i thought nothing of it.

Since then the hairline recession on the right side is almost at the point of no return, strangely enough my left temple is hardly affected but there are signs of the beginnings of a mass recession.

My dilemma is whether i let it go and start shaving my head facing my fears..

OR

I get onto avodart an see if it has any effect on halting the process..

Problem is im really worried about the side effects, especially long term (i actually already have the stuff just can't get myself to get on it)..

I have to say i've been fighting hairloss for the past 5 yrs and worrying about it for 7.. thats nearly a decade, its taken its toll and im sure like many of you im so dam tired of this sh*t but when i imagine my future baldness it depresses me and causes me to make rash decisions..

If you guys have any experience with the stuff or any general advice please let a guy know..

In my opinion, dont give up,continue the regimen, you can change finasteride with duta, and see what whill happen...if you have no sides and good results stick with it...i know that you are tired of this sh*t..i am fighting with it only 2 years and i am so f*****g bored from this curse..but just think abou this, you see no great results anymore from your regimen, but you maintain...so you stop treatment..things will got worse --> depression...and then what? shave your head?probably..but what about those 5 years of fighting?? don't give up..you are not a child, you know that no one can 100% cure himself from alopecia, you can only slow it down, and maintain what you have..you know that right?... DONT GIVE UP !

maximiliandreams encouraging post thank you..

Its not that i want to give up, its just that its inevitable, you said so yourself you can only stop or slow hairloss you cant reverse it..

But rather bald than some long term medical problem.. right?

Ben why did you stop using dutasteride, as far as i've read you stopped for the same reason that im afraid of starting.. long term side effects?

Maybe being bald won't be so bad.. its all about your attitude right, how you carry yourself.. i'd hate to think i base my wellbeing or worse my whole life on having hair.. I've spent nearly a decade on worrying and i feel like i've been focusing on the wrong things..

We all grow old get wrinkly and die in the end anyway..

What separates a depressed bald man from a happy successful bald man?

I have to believe that i can be the latter..

Thanks guys

What about using topical dutasteride on my hairline?

Has anyone had any experience or success with that?

There are very few threads covering the effectiveness of topical dutasteride..

Although i have read that alotta guys rekon dutasteride damages the hairline..

Some people have success upping their finasteride dose to say 2.5mg a day if you tolerate it.

http://www.bernsteinmedical.com/medical ... ion-sheet/

Off-Label Dosing
We are often asked if one should increase the dose of Propecia. Although we do increase the dose under certain circumstances, there is no scientific evidence that increasing the dose will have any additional effects. There are published data demonstrating that 5 mg is no better than 1 mg from controlled clinical trials. In practice, we often increase the dose when someone has been on the same dose of medication for 3-5 years and then stops responding (begins to lose hair after being stable). When increasing the dose, we generally use generic finasteride 5mg, ½ pill a day (see Caution during Pregnancy).

I have to say that going bald is really a tiresome ordeal..

5 years and counting i've been worrying about my hair and now im on the verge of having no choice but to shave it..

my right temple's losing so much hair its ridicules, i mean i might have to start shaving my head purely because my right temple has lost so much hair..

Hair loss is retarded.. I really hope some day in the not so distant future i won't have to worry about this sh*t, whether with hair or without..

Anyone can make a graph. Do you have links to a clinical study that backs up the graph?

Personally, I was on .5mg for nearly 3 years with decent results. However, I still had a thin spot on my crown that I would use a "mini-combover" (as I called it) to help hide (it's not bald, just you can see some scalp through it). I upped my dose to 1.25mg back in May of 11, and within 5 months that thin spot had filled in to the point of where I no longer had to worry about it!
