vellus hairs go terminal...?

so it's been almost 7 weeks on minoxidil for me, using the foam. i've got lots of nice new hairs comming in on my hairline but they are still mostly vellus hairs, slowly becomming more pigmented and thicker. does it usually take a long time for these new hairs to turn into full blown regular hairs? i mean generally speaking. i'm sure it differs for everyone but i'm looking for your experience if you have any.

also, when i started finasteride and rogaine i lost alot of hair, as in i lost about 60% of the density i had in the front. it's been hellishly thin since then (over a month). my thoughts were that the shed i had forced my hairs that were nearing the end of their cycle to fall out, and now it's taking a little longer for them to start a new cycle and emerge again...is this right?

sorry for stupid questions but i'm very anxious to see how well i will respond to minoxidil, so far my resluts are great but i'm just praying they won't stop. my hairline has gone from NW3 to a NW2, most of those hairs are vellus still though. using a flashlight shining it along my forehead i can see small vellus hairs sprouting at the level of an NW1 hairline, somewhere hair hasn't been since i was 17. i wonder if those will ever have enough strength to be healthy again.

I'm in a similar situation on the minoxidil and looking at your pics the temples are the same as mine. I also started 7 weeks ago so am at exactly the same point as you which is odd! I'm wondering what the process of regrowth is like exactly... for example do these vellous hairs fall out to be replaced by stronger ones which in turn fall out to be replaced by stronger hairs? kind of like a reversed miniturization?

this is exactly what i have been thinking. when you think about it, hair grows in cycles and is programmed to fall out after so long...so those vellus hairs are probably going to be there for a short while, then start falling out and come back thicker just like you said.

i think that is what is happening because i have had the vellus hairs for a few weeks now, they are mostly half an inch long but once in a while i shed one or two of them, so i think the thick ones sprouting now are ones that responded to minoxidil first, became vellus hairs, shed, and are now starting a new cycle.

i hope this is the case because things seem to be going well.

I don't know if this is helpful or not, but after a few months of rogaine i noticed new hairs (vellous) on my hairline, they sorta stuck out cause they were uncoloured.

Anywy, fast forward a year and they have either gone terminal or have dissapeared and died as I can't find them by just looking at them. It's either they have matured into normal hair and just look like the rest, or they died and never grew back. It's hard to tell, but I'm optomistic and think they went terminal.

well I too have noticed a number of these hairs turning darker although you've really gotta look close to see it all happening. I'm optmistic that I will get some success from the minoxidil and don't care if it takes 6 months or whatever but it's just a good feeling to see something positive happening with the hairline for once!

If you guys make it happen I will jump on the bandwagon.

I am worried about bloating because my face cannot take disfiguration like that.

My light-colored temple hairs, the new ones, are getting darker. They are forming a lower hairline. Foam rocks!

avodart grew a shitload of new vellus hairs that have been vellus for months. i think it will take rogaine to turn them terminal. that kinda sucks.

Well. I have had Telogen Effluvium for a while when i stopped eating and went on a humongous diet for a few months. My hair is half of what i had, but still not thaaaaat bad. Now that i have started eating properly, i see a lot of regrowth in my hairline. There are more than 20 terminal hairs visible to the naked eye.

Once i saw a vellus hair fall out. It was like something i had never seen before. It was atleast 3 inches and kind thick. I recognized it by the way it was shaped.Wispy but thick and had a white bulb at the end. what could that mean??
