Vellus hairs for 1 1/2 years

I've had vellus hairs on my temples for a year and a half now.

I always think "in a few months time they'll be thick"

been thinking that for 18 months.

I can't tell if the vellus regrowth is a result of the minoxidil or Propecia or both.

Either way does anyone know how vellus hair turn thick?

Do the hairs acctually thicken up?

Do they fallout and get replaced by thicker ones?

Could any vitamins or suppliments help?

Is there any general time scale for hair cycles?

Cheers for any response

I have a theory about it.
The vellus hair is not regrowth, but minituarized (dictionary please) follicles that refuse to die because of your finasteride/minoxidil treatment. So they stay the same...

so you are actually maintaining them. My 2 cents

EVeryone responds differently to the drugs.

If you've grown vellus hairs I would give it to the minoxidil.

If after this amount of time they haven't matured I think they never will.

Maybe a higher concentration of minoxidil may help them mature but I don't think they will at the current concentraton.. I say this as I am in a similar situation.

The only thing you really can do is dye them with hair dye to give them some sort of pigmentation.

hairs in the temple take the longest to respond to treatments. I remember a few saying their temples responded up to 2 years later when supposedly the minoxidil/Propecia combo will reach its peak in terms of performance.

I'm not saying its going to happen for sure, but its extirely possible. If I were you and seriously wanted to jump start them, then consider adding an SOD. I've used several and I think the best is folligen.

I guess it is possible, but to me it sounds like you have stopped miniaturization exactly where those hairs became vellus. Consider yourself lucky that you stopped it right there instead of losing those and whatever was next in your male pattern baldness proces? Are you maintaining/regrowing the rest of your hair?

I'll try to give a little timeline

Receding temples NW2 and a thinning crown about 4 cm diameter

Started propecia

1.5 years ago

crown filled in compleatly

Temple recession increased to NW3 with no regrowth

Started allpying 5% minoxidil to my temples

Slight increase in diffuse thinnning and vellus regrowth on the temples

Now

Continued slight increase in diffuse thinning, crown still holding strong, continued increase in vellus regrowth at temples

- So i've been on Propecia for 2 years and minoxidil for 1 1/2

Somewhat similar question here. I was losing my temples and diffusing all over when I started finasteride. At 6 to 10 months I lost ground on temples. Now after 19 months, I can see some vellus hair at my temples.

Is the vellus hair going to thicken up at all?

This is the question that is often on my mind. I suffer from mostly diffuse thinning.
I noticed some darkening of vellus hair around the temples since combining Minoxidil+Finasteride (previously been on Minoxidil for years with no success). These darkened hair however only grew to around 1-1.5cm, and have not grown at all for more than a year now.
I wonder if this is the due to the shorter growth phase of the hairs in that region, which fall out (and hopefully replace with equally dark hair again) before they become lengthy enough to be visible.
My dream is to have a fringe; if all these hair start growing in length, it is not entirely impossible (although it would be a very thin fringe).

That's very similar to my experience. Do these newly darkened hair grow to a length like the rest of your hair? I suppose I'm really noticing that mine don't grow much in length because I wear my hair long and they never caught up.

How long did this process take for you?

I would say from around 6 months since starting Finasteride, the benefits started to be visible. It's now been more than a year since I saw anymore progress, and I'm afraid to think one day it would start to worsen again...
