I am 20 years old and have been losing my hair for 5 years now. This year its gotten a lot worse!

Here are the pics:

People have told me to start using the Big 3, but I have no idea what they are.

I've looked around the forum and seen some young people like me with their stories and pictures. Mine is a lot worse. Lucky for me I have curly hair so on good days it'll look full.

Any help would greatly be appreciated

Thanks!

I was looking at some reviews and apparently this is a good product http://www.herbalhairshampoo.com/

I was thinking about taking that or Revivogen. I've been using coconut oil weekly and that seems to help a little. I also use a natural herbal shampoo right now but it hasn't stopped my hair loss (I dont use it on the intention of growing back my hair, rather, its a safe way to clean it without furthur damage). Of course I have some money to spend but I dont want it to go to waste. What do you guys recommend for someone like me?? I should also mention that I have an excess amount of hair all over my body. So I dont know if that's part of DHT or what? I don't get it all. What happened to all the hair on my head?!

People have told me to start using the Big 3, but I have no idea what they are (sure they tell me the names) but it doesnt really help me because I dont know if I need a prescription for those or could I just buy it off the internet.

Okay i'll see if I can consense all the info currently out there.

1. Get on a DHT inhibitor. These you take Orally (ie swallowing); they help to maintain hair and may grow some back.

Brad names: Propecia, or Proscar. Both are the same thing. Proscar is cheaper. Both need doctor's prescription.

Side effects occur in 2-4% of men. These include loss of libido, soft erections, etc. Once you stop taking the pills the side effects also stop.

2. Buy some Nizoral shampoo. It is an anti-androgen except of course, it's a shampoo. It is known to stop scalp itch, among other things.

There are no possible risks using Nizoral.

3. If you need regrowth then the third of the big three is Minoxidil which comes by the brand name of Rogaine. You apply this stuff to your scalp twice daily, it assists in regrowth but once you start it you can't really stop or you'll lose everything you've gained.

You don't need a prescription for Rogaine, to my knowledge.

I'm not sure about side effects, either.

Before you go crazy with the herbal shampoo I think you need to read the list of ingredients and do some research. I didn't see a single herb there other than aloe vera that could benefit hair loss and one of the herbs even darkens your hair or gives it a "black color", which is exactly why those pictures on the site look different for particular individuals. That's what happens when you grow your hair out a little bit and you put something in your hair that darkens it.

Be very careful with that stuff. It's likely a scam.

Also, it's pretty much impossible for a shampoo to alter the course of your hair loss unless it's a deep penetrating anti-androgenic shampoo.

Who could prescribe me Propecia? Dermotologist or a regular doctor?

And generally speaking, how much would all this cost me a year?

Any doctor can.

Propecia in the U.S. 360 tablets $895.90

http://www.drugstore.com/pharmacy/price ... 501_prices

Proscar in the U.S. 90 tablets (Cut them up into 4ths) $269.97

http://www.drugstore.com/pharmacy/price ... trx=1Z5006

Meanwhile:

Overseas pharmacy (www. elite net pharmacy .com)

Proscar, 84 tablets $177.00
Propecia, 364 tanlets, $604.00

http://www.elitenetpharmacy.com/pd_proscar.cfm
http://www.elitenetpharmacy.com/show_cart.cfm

Now, I don't know how good a deal drugstore.com or elitenet is for proscar/propecia, but this should give you some idea as to the money you can save. Propecia is a rip-off in the U.S.

Yes, it does. Since I started using it i've experienced regrowth, and I think it could only be the addition of ketoconazole shampoo. I use the regrowth.com brand. It is a little tricky finding out how much you can use without it drying out your hair, but I do believe i've achieved regrowth thanks to it. On it's own I doubt it'd do much though.

Actually it's a type II 5 alpha reductase inhibitor, which is the precursor to DHT.

Actually it's a type II 5 alpha reductase inhibitor, which is the precursor to DHT.

On here (the forums), DHT inhibitor encompasses everything from testosterone metabolism via enzymatic reactions to DHT antagonists/binding substances and androgen receptor competitive inhibitors.

5 alpha reductase type II is an enzyme and is not the precursor to dihydrotestosterone. Testosterone is the precursor and 5AR type II five alpha reduces both testosterone and progesterone.

My parents won't let me get on Propecia for whatever reason so I'm stuck with Rogaine. I've been using the foam for about a week now. Its real easy to apply and I pray I see some results.

If not, I'm shaving it all off. And this hurts a lot because I'm telling you I used to have some damn sexy hair just 2 years ago

:(

What's their problem with propecia? Cost? $177 for a year's worth of proscar (which is finasteride) isn't an awful price to pay for the prospect of keeping your hair and aiding with regrowth. I think you should have them get on here and read some of the depressing stories about early hair loss. That might change their mind. How old are you? It's suggested that people under 18 not take it, though in my experience you have to be pretty physically matured to begin experiencing male pattern baldness. You certainly look older than eighteen.

I'm only 20. Starting losing the hair since I was 15.

Seriously though, these pictures look a lot worse than what it actually is. The flash does wonders but you should still some idea of what's going on. It's worse than any other 20 years old I know.

Price really isn't the issue with Propecia. They just don't want me to take anything orally to solve my hairloss.

And honestly, I'd rather have lost all my hair when I was still young; I don't want to go into complete shock all of a sudden at an older age.

Hmm, I'd much rather lose it at 30 when I have some comiserators than go through my college years with a balding scalp. I wish I had that sort of outlook, though.

Wow i am seeing more and more young guys loosing their hair it's CRAZY. I am in the same position as you (I'm 18 and started 2 years ago). My folks are also against me using Oral drugs vs hairloss but i am on minoxidil 5% 2x a day and if i can maintain my hair untill im like 20 or so then i'll start propecia and hope it works, but if it gets worse then Fu*k it im shaving ;)
