Using finasteride every other day?

Hi,

I was on finasteride for about a week or 10 days in June but I quit due to testicular pain and the social disconnection side effects.

This week I made a decision to try using it every other day to lessen the sides and see how that goes. I remember reading that there is someone else on the EOD routine. I was wondering if there are others trying this and what the effectiveness of the treatment is?

In my experience, I feel finasteride in my body pretty quickly. The first time around I got the testicular pain the second day. This week I took a pill on Friday and today, it's been three days but I haven't felt any sides yet. EOD treatment might be working well for me, or it's too early to tell.

Any comments?

why dont you try a smaller dose daily? 0.5 or even 0.25...

i ve heard side effects are reduced and it just as good as 1mg in reducing dht....

I sort of tried that. I was on full dose for 5-6 days and the testicular pain was becoming annoying, so I switched to .25 for 4 days. The sides were less, but still there.

I'm not sure if I get the placebo effect but I do feel the finasteride in my body pretty quickly. A few hours after a pill I feel different, so my thought process was to avoid that feeling of finasteride working in my body. If I decrease the frequency of the pill rather than the dose, I might be able to avoid some of the sides.

Yeah, this time I'm gonna make it stick...

I'm feeling fine today, nothing major. I think taking it easy is working for me. I can increase the dose slowly slowly.

I find that very interesting. Have you considered doing a blind placebo-controlled test on yourself, to test that theory rigorously?

Funny :)

But you get my point. I feel different after popping a pill. I know my body, and I can feel my mood changing. It's not only my mood but it's doing something in the testicles area as well.

Huh?? I'm serious as a heart attack here. I take it you have NOT done such a test? Why not? If I thought _I_ were having such a reaction to finasteride, you can bet I'd sure as heck do the test on myself in a heartbeat.

Why don't you go ahead and do it, and post your results here? I think a lot of us would be very interested in seeing those results.

How do you suggest I do a blind placebo test at home on my own?

To be honest, I can see a few ways as well.. Like putting the finasteride in a spoon of some other food and just swallowing it.

I might try it one day when my housemate is back from holidays.

You'd have to get the help of a friend for that. I'd suggest a test covering at least 10 days. Get some food items that would be appropriate, like maybe 10 muffins or 10 cupcakes, or whatever. Crush 5 Propecia tablets into a powder, then mix each of the powders with some sugar. While you're out of the room, have your friend put some straight sugar into a hole in 5 of the muffins, and the powdered-finasteride/sugar into a hole in the other 5 muffins. Have him randomly label each muffin from 1 to 10, and make a hidden written record of which have the finasteride, and which don't.

Afterwards, you just eat one muffin per day, and after a few hours write down the label of the one you ate earlier, and whether you think it was a) one of the ones WITH finasteride, b) one of the ones WITHOUT finasteride, or c) you're not sure either way.

After you've eaten all the muffins 10 days later, your friend reveals to you which muffin was which. You compare your own written estimate of each muffin with the actual facts of which was which, and then post the results for the rest of us to see! :)

I like your idea of labeling 10 food items and then just taking a note of the number.

Maybe, I can empty 10 painkiller capsules and put finasteride in 5 of them, and have the other 5 empty or with sugar.

Does finasteride react with traces of paracetamol or ibuprofen? Probably not?

I would imagine emptying capsules like that should be fine, although I'd fill all of them up the rest of the way with sugar (both the ones WITH and WITHOUT finasteride), so you can't tell which is which.

place the pills randomly in a bunch of envelopes that are numbered, do a key (or better yet, have somebody else to the key), record your observations after each number, then make a conclusion from your data

I had major nut ache and headaches in the first 3 weeks. Nothing now.

I have responded really well on my crown...been 5 months. But sadly my anxiety has kicked in and i get tingling and numb scalp at night. So i expect to lose all the good work..... :(
