Using conditioner?

I feel like using conditioner causes shedding badly, is this just crazy or what? In the last 3-4 years since I have known my hair was going I kept thinking that I should use conditioner to help my scalp but every time I do my hair seems to get much worse and sheds a bunch. I thought maybe I was imagining this so about 7-8 months ago I just stayed using the conditioner for a long time thinking it was all my imagination, but that was the biggest loss of hair I have ever had. Can someone set me straight on this?

I use very little conditioner, my hair is naturally oily and so my hair looks bad if I use a lot of it.
