...im still getting male pattern baldness burn...16months on finasteride/regaine /nizoral...think its due to stress /lack of sleep (just split up with my girlfriend after 3 years) will upping the dose of finasteride get rid of this? anyone had any joy with taking more than the 1mg a day im on?...or is it purely stress related.....been annoying me all day...

cheers

The dht suppression between 1mg and higher is really negligible, if you arent on 1mg yet try it out, if you are still getting the "itch" maybe its time for you to try anti-andrigen topicals, like spironolactone or reviogen. If you want it completely gone though you will go with RU

My itch stopped with using finasteride. However, I get another type of itch with persistent use of the Kirkland minoxidil. Do you use that? It might be the reason you're itching. The liquid dries out the scalp + the tiny flakes left over causes pretty terrible itching at times. If I stop using it for 3-4 days, this itch totally subsides.

The male pattern baldness itch is controlled by use of finasteride for me.

It's also possible you have some other folliculitis or dermatitis on your scalp that isn't related to the "male pattern baldness itch" that some of us get.

That pretty much sounds like my problem, but finasteride fixed it for me.

If you aren't having any side effects you could take 1.5 or 2 or 2.5 MG and see if that helps.

Not really. There's a relatively flat response to increasing the dose taken by finasteride. Past 1 mg there really isn't much difference in the quantity taken and DHT reduced. Now, if you are experiencing side effects at 1mg, I wouldn't recommend taking more. Otherwise have at it.

they approve only 1 mg for hairloss. finaseride 5mg is for another problem...

5mg is perfectly safe to take if you aren't experiencing any side effects from 1mg. There's no chance of hurting his liver or anything by taking increased finasteride doseage, just a further reduction in 5AR-2 that might result in side effects. However, if he isn't experiencing any already, then there's really not much danger. Even if he did start to experience side effects with 2 or 5 mg, reducing the doseage or getting off finasteride altogether would fix his problem in a week or two.
