Im 34. Until August of 2005, I had a ton of thick hair with very minor frontal recession (age normal). Then it started thinning and shedding. Career self questioning, getting engaged, monogamy, working and beginning school at night made me stress big time.........I think all this stress triggered the hair loss and thin. Maybe just a coincidence?

My Dermatologist suggested I have Telogen Effluvium Effluvium. Not sure I buy it. Its been 10 months. Zero reversal. Or may be chronic.

I did my annual at regular doctor in March, blood work showed no abnormalities in thyroid levels. He also mentioned Telogen Effluvium Effluvium. But again, may be feel good therapy.

Had already been on Propecia for 2 years already as an almost exageratted preventive measure to some barely receding frontal line.

Now May 2006, still on Propecia. Started minoxidil 5% in January.

Dont see regrowth. Still thinning. Bummed. Still have quite a bit of hair which makes the loss slower and more depressing. Hair less and less manageable.

I wonder if I should keep the minoxidil after 5 months?

I have an unopened bottle of Avodart in my bathroom. Havent used it.

Afraid to stop Propecia and shed massively.

Also been using weekly Nizoral, Tea Tree Shampoo, Biotin Shampoo and taking B Complex vitamins.

The hair loss makes me miserable and even more stressed. Im obssesed with it and makes me feel old. I dont look 34. I look 27. Thats also why Im bummed.

Your comments welcome

thanks

Stress can speed up male pattern baldness...

Dont let having quite a bit of hair get you down :p

I say stick with propecia and the rest of your treatment. Maybe add copper peptides (folligen, tricomin or american Crew) or topical spironolactone.

You look 27... good for you. Wouldnt it be worse to look old and bald?
This is like when people complain about being handsome, tanned, muscular and BALD. I'm saving my sympathy for the guys coming in saying they're 5 ft tall, 50 lbs overweight crosseyed and BALD.
Sorry buddy.
But hang in there. Losing hair is depressing as f***. As I said consider cp or maybe topical spironolactone. And if your hair is unmanagable get a short haircut. Just buzz it down, it looks good on most.

Good luck

Yes cheer up and stick to your regimen or augment it slightly as has been suggested.

You'll be fine, at least you are smart and assertive enough to deal with something and try to fix it.

Good luck,
Joe

Im ready to try new things - Your ideas suggestions pls

Based on the story below and the fact that Propecia and minoxidil and Nizoral aint growing nothing nor stopping the relenteless path of DHT, I want to keep trying or adding other stuff like

Avodart
spironolactone
Copper Peptides
Amerwican Crew

What do you think?

Personally I would stay the hell away from dutasteride, but that is because I really cant tolerate any of these hair loss drugs very well :x , so just the thought of something stronger than finasteride almost gives me ED, spasms and blurred vision.
No seriously dutasteride may work better for you, but it is a powerful drug. As I said I would try topical spironolactone or copper peptides along with your current regimen before turning to dutasteride.

What are spironolactone and copper peps for?

Do they inhibit DHT?

The DHT in me is just killer and seems to completely be immune to what I take now. The most ironic part is that I started Propecia way back 2 years ago when I had minor frontal recession. And then last summer like I mentioned below, boom, thinning and shedding non stop. Zero signs of minoxidil or Propecia regrowing or stopping hair loss. Hair gets thinner and thinner. Its amazing. I find it also weird that I may inherited have had my mother's set of thick and abundant hair and at the same time inherited male pattern baldness.
