Hey guys,

So as the title suggests, I have been on finasteride for 1 month now and thought id share where I am.

This was the pic of my hair before starting:

Three attached images show where I am after 1 month

I cant see any real difference at this point (probably to be expected) but I want to believe something is happening, I do think the hair feels and looks thinner if anything though

I just have finasteride going at the mo - almost added in minoxidil foam, but thought I would leave it until 3 or 4 months first to see if the finasteride alone would do anything and hopefully save me an extra expense of minoxidil on top of finasteride - and I didnt think I could cope with the added shed from minoxidil as well as the shed of finasteride

I am also tempted to shave my hair down to stubble, although I am worried it is going to just highlight the problem further - like show a big bald area on top with sparse little hairs. It is something I want to do to see how it looks, but I dont think I could grow it back to this length without everyone realising (I am able to hide this particularly well at the momemnt with some brown dry shampoo, which essentially acts in a similar way to toppik)

Happy to keep the updates going as time goes on, if anyone wants to see them!

Cheers

No visible changes as of yet;exactly what you should expect in such a short span of time. And don't shave it as it'll highlight it a lot more.

I was thinking of just going straight with a no guard - would it still highlight the thinness?

Are you using Nizoral 1% shampoo 2-3 times a week? I would suggest adding that to your regimen as it has been proven it's about as effective as 2% minoxidil (but not 5%).

I havent added it yet, but I have been thinking of it - I was hoping to see if the finasteride could do a lot of the work before having to add in something else. Plus at £5 for 60ml, it seems quite pricey!

Am I right in thinking it will have the same effect as minoxidil then? In that if I were to stop using Nizoral, any gains made from it will be lost?

If you did lose gains it would take a lot longer, they work completely different. Nizoral has Ketoconazole which is an anti-fungal agent, and mildly anti-androgenic, it just helps the scalp become less inflamed even if you have dandruff. Minoxidil is a vasodilator which gets more blood flowing to the folicles but I had undesirable side effects on it, so I don't use it.

so to answer your question they're completely different. Nizoral won't make a profound difference but it does thicken each individual hair and it does keep the scalp cleaner. also add Biotin 10,000 mcg to your regimen, it thickens existing hairs and makes them grow faster. I cut them in half so that I absorb it better, 5,000mcg in the morning and then 5,000mcg later in the day.

Link me a source that proves this.
Half of my posts provide study links and I'm personally a bit tired of spoon feeding, no offense. it doesn't cause new growth but it does thicken existing hairs. for me personally it did and especially for the eyebrows and eyelashes. Hair growth cycle has also been noticeably faster (have been needing to get my hair trimmed more often than usual).

It's a harmless addition and up to you.

2 month update:

Not seeing a huge difference just yet, hopefully will by month 3... but I think something may be happenning, like the balding area could be reducing and seems to be more towards the centre... or maybe not

Guess il have to wait and see, but fingers crossed
