Hi Guys

Well months after getting propecia and minoxidal on prescription from a private doctor I finally took my first pill last friday, I was reluctant to take it before until I had seen at least a couple of specialists for obvious reasons. Mow I was fully aware of the sides mainly from this forum but I figured the percentages were against me. Well after taking it I put all those thoughts out of my head but after a while I started to feel funny, not really bad but just different, I then got a headache (which could have been the minoxidal) but all through the evening I just felt slightly odd and almost a bit dreamlike. Now I know most on here will say I'm nuts as it's impossible to get it after one pill so I was wondering if anyone else had this on their first pill. I have also read about your body having to adjust to propecia so this might have been it. The next day I had a mild ache in my testicles which went on and off and I had a bad zit on my face (I never get them, I'm 37), possibly coincidence excepted. but worse than that when I woke up I had a cold feeling down below like I had no connection. Now again this could all be in my mind I know and I'm sure that's what most will say on here but I would appreciate any thoughts advice but not in an angry "you're so stupid" way as I feel we are all in the same boat here. Anyway the whole thing got me thinking and I decided to not take another pill for the time being, not just because I might have been in the small percent who have a bad reaction to it (I feel fine now by the way) but also it got me thinking how possibly wrong it really is to put some foreign object in my body every day which rightly or wronly or safe or not is messing with my hormones. Nad I just don't know if I can go through that every day. I'm seeing a top doctor this week in Harley St( I live in the UK) who I have seen before who last time I went to see him said my only real options were Propecia or hair transplant. He said there were some really great hair transplant doctors now but I would have to travel and it would be expensive if I wanted to go to the best, at first I thought I would go with the Propecia but now I'm going back to talk to hime about hair transplant. My hair is thinning at the front and I have a receeding temple, I'm not bothered about the temple I just want to thicken up the from again. I have full thick coverage from the middle in front of the crown all the way back so I might be a godd candidate for it. I've seen a lot of success stories recently from guys who have been to GOOD doctors and I just figure once I do it it's done and I will not have to worry about putting this damn pill in my body every day and I have to say the reaction I had so quickly did worry me as I was really not expecting it. Just would appreciate some feedback really. Have any of you guys thought about the hair transplant instead and if not why? Thanks for reading everyone. Peace to you all.

Most hair transplant surgeons will put you on Propecia anyway, since the ultimate goal is to retain as much hair as possible, androgen-sensitive and androgen-insensitive. Remember, you only have a limited donor supply of the latter!

I wouldn't consider a hair transplant personally. Techniques have advanced over the years but the results seem highly variable, and the best surgeons are very expensive. From reading other forums like stophairlossnow.co.uk it seems that UK clinics are generally held in low esteem compared to US and Canadian. Obviously I have no personal experience - probably best to PM s.a.f, who I believe has had a number of hair transplants with various clinics in the UK and US (and still pops his Propecia).

Personally, and this is just my opinion, you sound like the kind of person who would be best served just accommodating yourself to your hairloss - you are too nervous for treatments. Just keep it short/shaved, the look can suit many guys just fine.

thanks for the response. well I decided to stick at it for a few more days putting it down to being nervous and maybe my body adjusting but there is NO way that this stuff is not making me feel bad. for the first few hours after dropping it I always feel very weird, almost like it's made me come up and I feel very edgy and hyper, this lessens and then goes away after a few hours until I drop another pill the next day, makes me feel headachy too and I still get that numb light pain in my testicles. I've decided to stop now as I really do think this stuff is wrong for me and I've just read too many posts from other people saying the same. So I'm kind of in a difficult situation as I don't think I can cope with the other option of just shaving my head either. did anyone else have these kind of problems in the early stages with propecia which went away after time? I'm just convinced I guess that this whole messing with hormones is potentially very dangerous, also the fact I have no real way of knowing if this stuff will in fact work for me so the risk of all the effects does not even outweigh fact that I have success.
