Trichologist in London

Any of you lovely people know of someone reputable and decent in the London area, I know the surgeons are all up on the big 3 etc, but need to see someone before that, I have lost a lot of hair just in the last year, It was thinning sure, but after a big lump of stress, I've lost loads now, much more noticeably.

Really need to see someone. Saw Philip Kingsley/Rushton years ago but no help to me.

Any ideas please, rather than the phone directory?

Hah! Not that local, but if they are really good and it will stop me being obsessed 24/7 with my hairloss, which is taking over my WHOLE life at the moment, I'd obviously consider it. I know they will just give out the big 3 which I can do without a Doctor, but some advice on it and whether it will be worth it from someone who knows would be good yeh.

The Harley St. usual suspects don't really have good personal skills in my opinion, unless someone knows someone out there who is different and does actually care and follow through? Thanks Gem

Trichologists are not doctors, they are for the most part semi-qualified quacks.

I suggest you see a dermatologist if you want a medical diagnosis for hair loss.

Yep that's true. I could rent an office space and call myself a trichologist. That'll be £500 pounds please.

Phillip Kingsley is seen as the foremost trichologist in the UK, mainly as he's quoted in newspapers and magazines regarding hair, although i've seen better advice offered in this forum. It seems to me that when it comes to hairloss doctors and dermos are not really bothered about it, apart from some of the quacks who profit from selling some homemade solution for £150 a time.

But at least a proper dermatologist can rule out other forms of alopecia which I think may be what's worrying the o/p

Thanks guys, will a derma be able to do the right blood tests etc. and prescribe Propecia..? Should most of them be clued up about hairloss? My doctor just gave me a prescription and ta da. I'm not sure I'm comfortable taking Propecia just yet, without right tests, but I do really need it now, more than ever.

I'm over 40 now and feel risks maybe more? Hair loss occured late for me. It's messing me up in a big way at the moment.

Not sure what blood tests you think you need exactly?

male pattern baldness is usually just a clinical diagnosis, i.e. the doctor can tell from your pattern and history of hairloss that it is male pattern baldness so no further tests would be required before prescribing you propecia.

Anyway there is no blood test for male pattern baldness or other forms of alopecia as far as I know.

I just see my GP and psychologist regarding blood work and hormone levels.

Yeh, I've just seen posts on here that certain levels of certain things that they say you should get readings of first, so if something does affect you, it's easier to resolve after the event? Don't remember what though

By the way, my GP is completely useless, like so many are..

So should I be asking for a good Derm in London not a Trich then. I don't want to go to a Derm, spend loads of money and have them look up Propecia in a book, like has happened before, I want someone clued up, who knows about the hormonal levels before prescribing. There must be decent ones out there. I seem to get all the ill informed idiots, and meanwhile I'm losing a lot of hair waiting for someone useful!
