Topicals can't be working

I was wondering.

Topicals (e.g - fluridil, revivogen) inhibits 5ar only in the scalp (assuming they do), but the are tons of them in the remaining parts of the body producing dht, which will eventually reach the follicles through the blood circulation.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, my understanding is that the scalp is unusualy vascularized. This partially explains the superior, relative efficacy of oral finasteride versus topical finasteride. I'm not suggesting that "anti-DHT" topicals have no place. Some people have reported results.

Despite the fact I risk the wrath of HairLossTalk.com, I have never believed any kind of topical DHT inhibitor or topical anti-androgen would prove to be a successful treatment for male pattern baldness.

I was hoping to be wrong, since I was planning on switching from finasteride to a topical, but you seem to agree that topicals aren't working :?

Im losing faith in spironolactone. Maybe I should just get on propecia....

What has your experience with spironolactone been like?

I've had great success with propecia (and minoxidil). In 3 months I've had 90% recovery. That would be a success story unless I had those terrible side effects.

I think I'm a very good responder. Also, my body is very sensitive to hormonal changes. When I switched to 0.5mg the sides almost faded in only 2 days. In 10 days I started shedding again (so sensitive...)

Generally, I believe I can be a good measurement to the success of any treatment.

I want to cut off finasteride but I know that my follicles wouldn't take it as a gesture.

The only treatment I know that fights DHT directly (as opposed to blocking 5ar) is spironolactone, which doesn't seem to be working so well.

I'm hopeless.

Im at the point in hairloss where if I keep the hair I have I would be happy. While I have seen regrowth maybe due to the minoxidil ive also seen recession. I exagerrated a little but I haven't seen many here that can say that its worked and Ive learned alot since I started it. Im going to try it out for a couple more months.

No wrath intended but Merck disagrees with you.

If I recall corectly, topical application of finasteride has not been shown to be effective. Frankly, I think Merck would have preferred a lotion to a pill.

I remeber a post of bryan saying that topical finasteride was sometimes effective, sometimes not, sometimes caused sides, and sometimes didn't.

I believe that topical finasteride can be effective depending on how it is absorbed systemically, and if absorbed it is effective as taking it internally (hence can cause sides).

Said that, I don't see any particular reason to use it topically.

Will finasteride 0.5mg a day work. I have acne on 0.6mg and blotchy skin need advice think 0.5mg would work?
