Topical spironolactone Shed

I have been on the S5 cream for exactly a month, and I started to shed thinning hairs a little bit more than usual. I would say 80% of the hairs lost are thinning. I am wondering if this is because S5 is starting to work, or is it just because my scalp has been moderately greasy ,because of S5, causing the hair strands to loosen up and fall out easier? I am also on a herbal prostate medication that contains saw palmetto, beta sitosterol, pumpkin seed extra, and pygeum bark extract which have been debated to lower DHT BTW. Thanks guys!

I've been using it for about two weeks but I'll let you know if I experience the same. You should be using it twice a day and should use alcohol as a carrier. Idk if caffeine and retinol are good enough carriers. The italian study that used topical spironolactone used ethanol as a vehicle.

you mean S5 cream on it's own isn't enough? why don't they put the carrier in with the cream when they sell it?

I think they do in their new formula. I read in a published study that mixing it with low grade alcohol(isopropryl, cetyl) degrade it while mixing it with stearyl alcohol keeps this from happening.

do you use S5 or a different brand of spironolactone? I'll probably get the S5 out of loyalty to HairLossTalk.com, but I just want to see what alternatives there are

Thulhu since we started at pretty much the same time, it will be great to compare results. But I'm probably going to leave the S5 as it is and not modify it (don't want to **** it up). Also have you noticed any of those tiny blond hairs getting slightly longer and darker? Quantum he is using the S5 which contains 50mg/g- spironolactone, 10mg-g caffeine 1%, and .25mg/g retinol .025%.

Yea Quant I'm using the s5. There are some other sites like rui or cem that sell a liquid form but I like the s5 because it doesn't smell too bad. I've heard some of the other sprio products smell much worse because they don't mask the smell. What I have noticed is a good deal of shedding but it is too early to tell whether it is working or not, but I will def give updates and would like to hear how you are responding Cursed. By the way I use alcohol as a carrier in the morning and then a dermaroller at night to help scalp absorption.

Oh so you apply alcohol and then on top of that you apply the spironolactone? I've been doing some scalp massages before I apply it. Since I have longish hair, I've been applying three times a day to compensate because some of it doesn't reach the scalp. Some of the tiny tiny blond hairs on the receded part of the hairline are turning darker and some are slightly thicker. I took pictures yesterday of just the hairline in a month or so I will compare the results. Feel like when it comes to these things your mind starts to play tricks on you.

On the jar itself says to apply to thinning and receding areas. Blocks DHT and protects follicle why not apply to areas that aren't noticeably thinning yet

considering the size of the jar and the price, this isn't exactly optimal. I wish they would change their formula to a liquid, then it would be a lot easier to apply than the cream.

Using s5, with revivogen shampoo and nizoral twice a week for the last 2 weeks... Hoping for some results in a few months (stop losing hair at least), otherwise there will not be much left :)

I mean even if spironolactone is only a little effective I think its a lot better option than Propecia in terms of being side effect free. I haven't experienced any side effects so far so that's good news.

Does your hair become dependent on spironolactone like it does on Minoxidil?

but spironolactone is an anti-androgen (ie. a preventative) whereas minoxidil is purely a stimulant. I would therefore assume that like Finasteride, maintaining hair rather than regrowth is it's primary function

A profound yes, if you mean those hair grown by spironolactone and then you simply quit spironolactone?; ...

spironolactone doesn't grow hair just blocks DHT locally. I highly doubt hair are dependent on topical Spironolacton. I've been using it for over 3 years.

rcom, how would you rate this product 1-10? Has to be pretty decent for you if you've been using it for 3 years

I don't have any side effects. It absorbs locally. Just make sure you don't have any cuts or exposed pimples on the scalp where you apply spironolactone as it can get to the blood stream. I think its better to avoid applying spironolactone on things like that just in case.
But as I said I never had any sides. I'm using it twice a day, small amount on hairline and crown. One jar of s5 lasts me around 3 months.

CursedMen, it works. It seems my hairloss slowed down. But remember you need some time for spironolactone to kick in. You will shed less hair, that's what I noticed around 2 weeks after I started using it.
I never used finasteride nor dutasteride.
I would rate it 8 out of 10. It works for me but I also use 5% minoxidil, keto shampoo and hair signals (when it comes to hair signals I'm not sure if it does anything)

At the moment, I'm experiencing shed, my hairline got hit but I have those sheds every once in a while. It lasts 2 to 3 weeks then everything grows back to normal, sometimes even more. Last time I had shed like that was a year ago.
3 weeks ago I switched Nizoral 1% keto to revita which also contains 1% keto but it also has other ingredients like copper peptides, emu oil and other things. It could be the reason why Im experiencin shed. Every change to the treatment can trigger she but as i said I'm confident it will grow back.
