Topical Retinoids....Fibrosis?

I'm considering adding a topical retinoid to my regimen. I am aware they are supposedly beneficial to hair growth, but I am confused about the relationship of collagen and hair follicle.

I am aware collagen is somehow part of petrifollicular fibrosis so why then are retinoids, which improve collagen synthesis, beneficial to hairloss? Won't this just increase the rate of fibrosis??

I dont think the increase in collagen synthesis necessarily means increased fibrosis, fibrosis is generally bad with irregular fibers forming, the retanoids probably increase the production of un-damaged collagen that supports the skin layers.
