In the past I've used a minoxidil solution which contained retin-a. I now have a tube of retin-a cream 0.5% which I intend to use on my scalp a few times per week.

Has anyone tried the cream before? Results? Sides?

Thanks

I have been using this cream (0.5% version) on and off for the last 3 month. In my opinion, this is a great product, but it will literally "shave away" and make your skin peel layers if you are not careful with the dosage. It didn't dawn on me how much skin it would remove until I had physical application of this product. If you are planning on using Retin in combination with minoxidil, I would say give it a try but make sure you are not sensitive to it by testing it on a small area somewhere on your body first!

Also, I have come to the conclusion that routine usage of Retin A is somewhat difficult to keep up with! Because your skin is constantly peeling away and the minoxidil alcohol might burn tremendously depending on how much skin Retin-A has removed from your scalp. Also, applying minoxidil immediately after application of Retin-A feels somewhat like taking a shot of triple espresso coffee when your body cannot process so much caffeine and your body just shuts down - you feel sleepy and intoxicated instead of all the benefits of caffeine. I find that the minoxidil side effects such as sleepiness, drowsy, split-headaches all become much more pronounced when you are on Retin-A treatment. Otherwise, I have experienced no significant side-effects thus far...

Good luck!

I got mine through walk-in at an Asian drugstore, so sorry, can't help there. Nevertheless, I don't think you need a prescription for this drug? :dunno:
