Has anyone tried topical Progesterone hair treatments?

@Pasbrillantebrunette is that what you use a topical ?

Any down side to it?

Oh its 'USP' Progesterone which is 'natural'

Very interesting! How much do people use? I read that you should use 100 mg/day, but is that how much to use if applied topically (for better absorption)?

I am waiting for a custom topical compound to come in the mail with finasteride, minoxidil, bimatoprost (Latisse), and something else (I don't recall at the moment)... didn't know people were using Progesterone... interested in adding that in, too, but it's a bit scary... wondering if a blood workup to see current estrogen and progesterone levels should be done first (I'm almost 35).

Men have a diversity of reactions to progesterone so I won't be trying it.

hey hairblues! you could always try calling murray ave apothecary and discussing the different compounds they can add to your minoxidil. I tried the progesterone, finasteride, azeliac acid, hydrocortisone, all that from them... but my scalp did not like it. it just created more inflammation.

they can adjust dosages to whatever you'd like to try (as long as it's not too high). I would warn to just start off at low dosage and once a day to a specific area and see how your scalp reacts. Most of these things as topicals don't have much research behind them.

Christ--we have to find something to work for you this is crazy.

I hope f*****g Brotzu comes through..Fly to Italy if you have to.

You can meet up with @Pasbrillantebrunette ;)

For me i am going to give it a few months as is and give the hairs a chance to thicken up--but I am just trying to keep an eye out for what else is out there in case...I might consult with that pharmacy..

Has anyone else used them successfully? I mean if you are having reaction to everything but all from this place--makes me slightly wary.

nothing works, so perhaps it's time for me to try nothing. :)

Seriously. You tried almost everything. :/
What the f***.

yeah, it's all good. I am coming to terms with it. I am trying 500mg seti orally right now, dermarolling and minoxidil. last resort. if it doesn't help at all, I will be shaving zero guard this summer and attempting to live life.

How long on the oral Seti? I was reading that thread last night--its a bit confusing to me...is it something that is coming out at some point?
did you try it topical?

I was thinking of adding either derma rolling if my minoxidil maxes out OR even just taking a shower right before i put it on..I had read advice NOT to do that in beginning as it increased side effects. So far i have not had any other than some facial hair darkening which not a big deal (laser).

it's been a month and a half. nothing to report. scalp is still irritated and i am losing hair rapidly. I am on like 20 things that supposedly slow down hair loss, yet am losing hair like a chemo patient. setipiprant, RU, minoxidil, dermarolling, nizoral, biotin, saw palmetto, zinc, castor oil, MSM, other natural "DHT inhibitors", multivitimans, etc... I've tried finasteride, even dutasteride, and nothing... soon enough I'll have to come to terms with the fact that I am getting slaughtered in this battle.

You need to do some research for a good alopecia dermatologist. A specialist in that field...not a regular dermatologist.

You can even get in to see Dr Costarellis he is in Pennsylvania it's a pain in the *** but if your regular dermatologist writes a 'letter of medical necessity' and faxes all your blood work and tests from his/her offie they will probably take you on--he's actually not expensive for a consult compared to some of the others and they take insurance..but would probably be a bit of wait to see him. There is another specialist/researcher dermatologist at Cleveland at Cleveland Clinic..i can't think of her name off hand but if that is closer i can get her name for you... I told you about the other one in NYC Mckay-Wiggans she takes insurance also but not all of them.
When I thought I had that rare Areata I hunted down for best alopecia dermatologist in county that were relatively near me..I did not wind up needing to go to Dr Cots but I spoke to his receptionist a few times. I was even debating flying to Cleveland because i spoke to that receptionist also and that woman would have seen me ASAP. Dr Wilma Bergfeld is her name.

I would try to get in with Dr Costarellis though if you can--mostly because the amount of research he has done (i don't mean for his follicer but he's done a lot of research over the years so he might have answers).

It may not lead to a solution but perhaps an explanation.

I simply have male pattern baldness, just like my brothers. There pattern is identical to mine, I am just more diffused. My dad is the same. I am just very susceptible to Telogen Effluvium and that has greatly exaggerated the problem. I have had it three times in the last couple years, while my brothers have not had it once. Multiple serious leg injuries, and surgeries... and then finasteride caused it as well. I believe my rapid hair loss in the last year was from multiple leg injuries... perhaps some of it will come back once the Telogen Effluvium is resolved.

-but yeah, I have been to well respected derms and have had blood panels done. My scalp appears completely healthy on the outside and all my tests are normal, as they always have been. I just get crawling and tingling in the areas of loss. inflammation.

-not much I can do but ride it out a while longer and see if it resolves, now that I am not experimenting with f*****g finasteride and dutasteride and barely any RU anymore (just the hair line).

I think I am very susceptible to Telogen Effluvium too. Triggered Androgenetic Alopecia after a surgery and since, I keep having Telogen Effluvium every time I start or stop a medication (BCP, etc.) but the thing lasts for months...It's the worst in hair loss imo, you feel like you are seek and you feel so powerless. Like you I am on a lot of things (spironolactone, cyproterone acetate, E2, stemox, adenosine, melatonine, iron, vit. d, zinc, biotin, vit. C. I even have some RU in my freeze to test...). It's just exhausting. Hang in there, bro.

You were never on a high dose of just spironolactone?

No. Well I was on 100 mg for 4 months. Reduced the shed a bit I guess. My plan (but it may not be a good plan :)) is to try Androcur, get regrowths, then reduce reduce reduce and compensate by increasing spironolactone, which may help if I have gained some weight because of Androcur. But I will have to increase by my own. Derms here don't prescribe more than 100 mg of spironolactone.

Is Androcur dutasteride?

The protocol or opinion here in US for women seems to 200 mg a day of spironolactone to be effective for hair loss.
I don't know if that is accurate.
I took that dose for 2 weeks but had to go off because some minor complications but I might go back on it eventually.

Androcur is Cyproterone acetate :)

I know it is 200 mg... but my derm would not go to that dose. Considering I take CA tooit may not be necessary, but I will think about it, see if I can increase the dosage by myself maybe.

I would not suggest upping the dose unless you dropped the other medications..That can be way too much..I don't know what would happen.

Don't worry girl, I am under medical supervision. But at some point I would like to drop Androcur or take only a very light dose and up spironolactone.

Hey Pasbrillantebrunette.
I am also taking CA with Estradiol as birth control.
My hair actually started to fall during the time I had it, even tho CA is a very potent anti androgen.
I am tapering off slowly to avoid a quick degradation of the state of my hair and also other symptoms happening when you stop hormonal birth control.
Because, I know you are supervised but I still want to say it - this is pure sh*t for our bodies, and the later you stop, the more intense your symptoms will be. You may end up with disfiguring acne you never had!
I know that stopping CA will ultimately aggravate my hair loss and give me acne and all that sh*t. But here is my plan :
- stop the sh*t hormones while making sure my body is not depleted in any nutrient/sleeping enough/not stress too much (haha this one is hard)
- do a full hormone check up to know my REAL levels (not masked by hormone replacement therapy) and see how actually ovulating changes my overall state.
- Check if I have any hyperandrogenism (not sure if this is the right word but you get it) and its source: ovarian, adrenals or a thyroid malfunction
- Treat accordingly : PCOS lifestyle ?
- save for the early treatments of 2018 and after. I already started; but I am studying so it's kinda hard.

Good luck for your hair loss; I really hope you find a situation that suits you :)

PS : At the moment I am doing my homework on Ovestin : an E3 cream providing estriol, the hormone that give pregnant women glorious skin and hair. It has a weak estrogenic effect so it's available without a prescription, but it still has effects. Could be a thing for us IMO :)
