Has anyone made up their own ethanol, glycerol, water base for finasteride? Wondering about exact amounts of each and amount of finasteride to prevent problems of over absorbtion.

This is the complete story of Topical finasteride.
The high number of dropouts was a result of the lack of any improvement in the status of the scalp hair

as best as i can answer your question:
0.005% solution of finasteride consisting of 50% ethyl alcohol, 25% propylene glycol, and 25% distilled water

I was using 15% minoxidil containing 0.1% finasteride, but it only destroyed my hair. Now I have been using 6% minoxidil with oral finasteride (1 mg/day) and the results are great. Topical finasteride apparently isn't as effective as the oral version. And I can add one more interesting note: When I started to use oral finasteride (in June this year), I was also using SARMs and after mere 3 weeks, my testosterone dropped to 50 ng/dl (i.e. ca. 10% of the normal level). This means that there couldn't be almost any DHT in my blood (DHT levels correspond roughly to 10% of the testosterone level). After additional 3 weeks, my hair started to explode, and I was regrowing hair on places that have been bald for 16 years!

Now, how could finasteride cause such a regrowth via DHT suppression, when there was virtually no DHT in my body? And it must have been finasteride, because I was taking SARMs even before, for as long as 2,5 months, yet I have never experienced the slightest signs of regrowth. I suspect that finasteride does much more than just suppresses DHT. It is a cascade of reactions in the human body.

warlord, you do not want your testosterone to drop. There are people really messed up because changes in testosterone levels after taking oral finasteride. This is why I stopped.

Finasteride INCREASES testosterone levels by ca. 10-15%. My drop was due to SARMs. My hormonal system is quite sensitive to testosterone suppression, because I have done several steroid cycles during the last 4 years. It was an unpleasant surprise that even SARMs suppressed my testosterone so much. My luteinizing hormone apparently doesn't work well. But after it normalizes, I want to measure both my testosterone and DHT values.

sorry for the bump but i found what i was looking for as to why topical finasteride hasn't been very successful - this is from a researcher -

"An 0.05% formulation of topical finasteride was well absorbed and lowered the serum dihydrotestosterone concentration by up to 40% but did not regrow hair. This suggests that the main action of finasteride is to lower circulating dihydrotestosterone through inhibiting production by the prostate, rather than affecting the metabolism of androgen in the hair follicle." (R Sinclair - 1998. Male pattern androgenetic alopecia)

if anyone has information that contradicts this, please post.
