Any recommendation for doctors who specialize in hair loss. I've been to 2 dermatologist - supposed experts. (DC/MD/VA) And both refused to do any blood work. Don't understand why they wouldn't want to rule anything else out .

But anywayz - I'm back to searcing for a new Doctor.

Doctor's name
Speciality (derm or endo)
Location
Insurance - do they accept or not.
Why the recommendation?

FYI - I find that this forum is more up to date on Hair Loss than these doctors. One doctor was just miffed that I knew so much. Couldn't answer questions and just basically shut down on me. And one doctor admitted when I asked - how come no cure: "Because there is too much money. This is a billion dollar industry."

To those of you wondering why I post in this forum - women tend to read advice instead of give it.

Doctors who specialize in hair loss .... that's a tough one.

Why?

Because you know, right now, as much as any "Doctor who specializes in hair loss" does.

There isn't much to know right now, and doctors are unfortunately the LAST beings on this planet who you can expect to be up to date on their knowledge. Its pathetic but its true, and I have no shame repeating it over and over publicly. They know little or nothing beyond the basics. At this point I pretty much self diagnose and use my doctor for the blood tests I want. If he does not give them to me, I go elsewhere and get them. It's funny when a doctor asks me if I have any letters after my name (M.D.) or any formal medical training. They've existed so long thinking those letters somehow made them superior to others in knowledge, and the internet has shown that this is absolutely positively untrue. To me, those letters only mean that they have the legal capacity to write me a prescription or ask for bloodwork for me, which I can't do on my own. That's the only value I see in most physicians today since they don't seem to keep up to date in their training. :(

Women's hair loss is even more elusive than Men's hair loss, and we know very little about men's hair loss right now. Where Men's hair loss 99% of the time has one cause we haven't been able to define yet, women's hair loss can happen as a result of a thousand different things.

Have you had the necessary bloodwork done?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. And I'm finding that you're are right. These doctors really are clueless. I hate to sound harsh but's its true. I've visited two derms (recommended for hair loss) and was just dissapointed. I came really prepared and had done exhaustive research. This one doctor just looked at me like I was trying to make him take his boards all over again. I think they were just unprepared for an educated patient.

Oh, and forget about mentioning some of the treatments on here. They really didn't want to hear about that - "nothing but a bunch of smoke and mirrors". Don't waste your money."

It's just fustrating. I can't even get them to give me the blood work. And you're right female hair loss is more elusive. It seems like doctors know more about aids and cancer than hair loss. And I believe hair loss has been around much longer.

But oh well, can't complain - I just need answers.
