Propecia is not an option for me as I have a history of depression. Nothing, even hair, is worth bringing that back.

Ive been on Nizoral 2% EOD for a year, and while I think Ive lost ground its hard to definitively say from pictures. I also use aloe vera gel nightly and a few weeks ago started on a laser comb.

Im wondering if I should wait to see any effects of the comb, and also I dont want to start taking rogaine and risk non-male pattern baldness hair becoming dependent on it as im a diffuse thinner.

So is it too soon for Rogaine?

Not saying you should take finasteride, but I had bad anxiety and fell into depression 2 years before i started taking finasteride and got on anti depressants , took finasteride two years later and it didnt mess with my mind at all. Mind you finasteride accellerated my hairloss and i looked exactly like your pic does two years ago, so it really is a gamble.

I have never heard that finasteride use would be connected with depression. I would say that it is the opposite: It would improve your mood by regrowing hair?! It's bizarre, what "side effects" are connected with finasteride. What will be the next "big thing"? The mad cow disease?

Minoxidil 2% every other day is too little. It is almost like if you used nothing. If you once start minoxidil, start it properly! You must reckon with that all treated hair will become dependent on it and you will have to stay on it until the end of life. Unfortunately, there are no magic lotions without drawbacks. I have been on minoxidil for 16+ years already.

I would have one interesting note, though: For some time, before jumping on minoxidil, I was using Alpicort F, a topical anti-androgen produced by a certain German dermatologist. I didn't regrow any hair, but it worked perfectly for maintenance for 2 years. Interestingly, I had no problem, when I switched from Alpicort F to minoxidil. Therefore, it seems that anti-androgens don't create any "dependence". They simply block DHT.
