To quit finasteride or take it EOD?

Hi, everyone,

I'm 41 and have been on 1/4 proscar ED for almost 15 yrs. It seems to me that the medication is losing its effectiveness on me as my hairline keeps receding and the crown is thining slowly as well. And I've been experiencing weak erections and less intense orgasm in the past two years, which I know may not necessarily be the consequences of taking finasteride. Now I often ask myself if I should just forget about the hairloss thing and just quit finasteride. Or should I take it EOD to prolong the benefits? Or resort to other measures? Any advice is appreciated.

Only you can answer this, but if it loses its effectiveness you can try .5 mg dutasteride which is stronger. You can have blood tests done on your hormone levels to see if they are dropping (you could be low T). If you had some done years ago you could compare them to today. But I imagine if you have been on finasteride 1.25 for 15 yrs and stop you will have a lot of hair loss. Switching to EOD may not be as bad but I doubt it is enough to make a lot of changes to hormone levels or side effects.

You must notice that, although you are still young, in the 40's it's usually to hormone levels to go down, so maybe you should take it EOD or even considering quiting finn (15 years is such a long time, and if you already have a family, stable life, etc, it won't be terrible to lose the hair). Maybe also you could try minoxidil.

Tks for the advice. I've decided to take it EOD.
