How did you first notice the regrowth? Did hairs fall out first and grow back thicker or did you notice them start coming through thicker at the root?

I definately like to hear the answer to this one and also for users of minoxidil.

Well I have been on Propecia for 6 years, it's tough to answer this question. It wasn't like I looked in the mirror everyday to check to see if I had regrowth ( which some people do, this could get to be very dissappointing). I didn't count hairs on the top of my head, I didn't count hairs in the shower, I didn't take pictures of myself, I didn't examine my hair everyday for fall out.

I guess what I am saying is I don't really think there is a way to tell when the regrowth starts. As soon as it was available I started taking it then.....The way I noticed is one day ( after a long time ) I noticed the bald spot on the back of my head was gone and my hair seemed to stay thicker and it wasn't thinning out anymore. That's it, that's how I knew.

As for minoxidil I have never noticed any regrowth with it. My hair has continued to decline ever since I have been using it. Whether it has helped a bit I don't know? The only way to find out would be to go back in time a couple of years and not take it and see what my hair would be like now!

biff why such a low dose of finasteride?

I tried taking just 0.5mg at first and after only a couple of days my libido was practically zero and I had a permanent ache in my balls. I then took a break from it for a couple of weeks and then tried 0.25mg. I haven't had any noticeable side effects on this dosage and have read that low doses do work for some people. If I don't get any joy I will have to try upping my dosage to 0.5mg again and see if the same thing happens.

That's what I would do. There is no real way to tell. One day, Your just like " Holy sh*t " my hair is back. Or " Holy sh*t, this crap aint working!.

Either way, as people have said if you check every day you will just get discouraged.

Permanent ache ..... for a couple days? The side effects of Finasteride are worst in the beginning and fade after about a month. Testicle ache is completely normal and goes away. You should have stuck with it, or read about this very common occurance on here :)

You're really taking a gamble with your hair. Why don't you just take 1mg daily and give it a month and see that you will most likely be one of the 90% + who have absolutely zero side effects after your body adjusts? 0.25mg isnt causing any side effects because 0.25mg isnt doing anything for your hair.

Yes we've all seen the study on microdosing. I was on 1mg for 3 yrs and when I dropped to 0.75mg all my results disappeared. I believe 1mg is the dose safest for results with hair.

Most people who claim "regrowth" from propecia are mistaken. Most of the time it's just hair growing back that was shed earlier.

True story.

Thats BS, I had a big balding spot on my crown for years before starting propecia- almost two years into propecia the spot is way less noticable. Merck research on the twins proves this as well.

Don't be foolish Propecia is our best defense if you can tolerate it, as 95% should be able to.

I am on the big three plus some minerals like Biotin and Copper peptide spray and nothing, I mean nothing has worked as well as Propecia.... I would have been a gonner without it.

I concur...Propecia is in fact growing lots of hair on my head. 2 small slick bald spots on my vertex are now gone!

I never noticed any shed. What I noticed first was my temples. Little black vellus hairs started sprouting and they have since become thicker terminal hairs. I don't check very often, but when I do, I pull back the hair on my temples, and I can see the new growth hairs clearly, because they are shorter and curl away from the direction I'm pulling my hair back.
