sorry bro read that wrong i am not receding again after 8 months lol
"Ive been on rogaine now for 8 months and i have had great regrowth on my hairline i am being led to believe that i need to add finasterideor i will keep receding is this true or will the rogaine be enough to halt the process my derm wont perscribe me finasteride as she believes that rogaine is enough for me at this point"

Well, you kind of typed that very ambiguously then. You "had" and "will keep receding" was a bit misleading. Wasn't sure if you started receding after 8 months of use or if it was what someone told you, either case 8 months is plenty of time to see cosmetically significant results. Not all derms are trained the same way, depends on the school, how smart they are, what they are particularly specialized on, and even gender/ whether they are balding or not matters a lot of the time. Trust me. I've been to plenty, f*****g plenty of derms. They are all different. If you're not seeing results, as in not regrowing hair/hair still falling out, it doesn't necessarily mean you're a "non-responder", but that the rogaine isn't sufficient in resolving the issues that ARE causing your hair to fall out-- namely, DHT. Remember rogaine only helps to nourish your follicles. If you have male pattern baldness, or are losing hair, rogaine won't do sh*t but just slow it down for a short time. What that guy told you is right IF you have male pattern baldness.

Rogaine can be working perfectly fine, still performing at the same level in the scalp of a person aggressively losing his hair and a full-head. It's just the full-head doesn't have super aggressive male pattern baldness and experiences cosmetically significant results while the other(with rogaine being just effective on him) still loses an *** ton of hair because his scalp is getting *** fucked by androgens and androgen-receptors.

Bruh, you know how much hair you can lose in 8 months? Lol. Besides, she is a female and doesn't understand our situation as intimately as a men would. Get yourself a better derm. If you've been on rogaine for 8 months and are receding again, you probably need to up your game plan. The best plan is always a preventative one, not damage control.
f*** that. Start NOW.

Have you got a photo of your hair? What is your pattern of loss? Hairline recession? Diffuse?

Do you know how many derms have told people who are actually balding but are in the beginning stages that they aren't balding? I bet you half of the people in this forum have been told this bullshit. Lol. Hey man, I'm just trying to give you preventative advice. The simple fact that you're on rogaine should set some red flags in your hair-restoration/maintenance journey. Don't take your derm's diagnosis as 100% fact. One of my uncles got a wrong leg amputated for cancer. He now has no f*****g legs. Doctors are wrong a lot of f*****g times.

How long have you been losing hair? Have you counted roughly how many hairs you lose per day?
What you want to look for is miniaturisation - those small, thin and fair hairs that are being choked by dht. Miniaturisation = Androgenetic Alopecia and in some rare cases iron deficiency. What blood tests have you had done?
If I were you I would do a full sex hormone blood test, dht, iron, b12, vitamin d, zinc, liver enzymes, thyroid, prolactin. If you give a f*** about your hair, you will do what you can to make informed choices. My biggest regret was listening to 2 derms and 4 GP’s who said “you’re just stressed”, “your hormones are low but fine” etc, when in fact I was going through menopause at 21 and lost 2 years worth of hair f*****g around thinking that I just needed to stress less. By the way, I was told to use Rogaine by my first derm, who took biopsies from the wrong f*****g areas in my scalp and told me that I just have Telogen Effluvium. Go to a derm that specialises in hairloss, get your bloods checked, don’t waste time f*****g around. That’s my advice. If I could go back in time and redo it all I would.

It looks like normal hair but then again each man has a different hairline. Pronounced temples doesn’t always mean hairloss. It’s hard to say.

I have had that hairline since i can remember last summer it started to thin slightly i thought but now its back to a point where i am happy, i am very aprehensive about finasteride to from the sexual side effects even though they are extremely rare i know but im not sure is it worth the risk 2% of millions of people is pretty high

Look it’s your hair and if you aren’t seeing a worsening of condition then I suppose you can wait. Did you get a shed to begin with on minoxidil?

You've got a thick head of hair. It does look like it's receding/developing into a mature hairline. Frontal regions like your hairline and temples are really sensitive to androgens. Rogaine can help maintain it, but it is not as effective on the frontal areas as it is elsewhere-- if you want to have a strong shot at hairline regrowth you'll need more than just rogaine. Atleast add derma-rolling and focus on your hairline temple areas. Some beautiful temple recession:
