People on here always warn that if you get off propecia your hairloss will get aggressive and go to the stages you should've been at without meds. Well I was on propecia for 2 years and quit earlier this year. I slowly worked my way into the minoxidil/spironolactone combo and my hair hasn't gotten worse, let alone aggressive. I mean, it may for some people... but if you want to switch off finasteride , dont assume you will be bald within the week.

That's great to hear, i think you should put it in the success stories. Hardly any success stories out there without finasteride or dutasteride

Isn´t spironolactone said to work in a similiar way as Propecia? It is no surprise theat you can replace the one by the other. Good Luck for the future! Do you have pics?

Yes, spironolactone works in a very similar way to propecia, but is said not to be as strong. It has worked fantastic for me, and I think a lot of that has to do with the pairing of minoxidil. I will have pictures up within a couple weeks (camera troubles).

Friend of mine had bad hair loss, really diffuse up top, recession etc. Started Propecia and had phenominal regrowth, crown an vertex thickened up nicely but his temple recession still exists.

He went from very bad, to damn!

He takes Propecia whenever! Oh, he even forget an entire year, no bull sh*t and hasn't lost any ground.

That amazes me.

How do you...."forget" to take it an entire year?

Can you elaborate a little? What is your loss pattern like? Is it frontal thinning or crown or diffuse?

How do you apply the minoxidil and the spironolactone? Do you wait awhile between treatments or one after the other?

And finally, how long have you actually been off finasteride?

Well, I have recession, and thinning in front and crown. And my recession has started to fill in recently, which is amazing. Crown looks pretty good and even front is thickening up.

I apply minoxidil first at night. I use the dropper and kind of "draw" in on to my scalp and make sure all areas are covered. I use a little more than 1ml. I like to wait an hour, but sometimes I only wait like 20 minutes, to apply the spironolactone. I slick my hair back and try to cover my temples and all thinning areas.

I was on finasteride from august '04 until just earlier this year.

Any other questions, let me know.

Hmm, why did you stop Propecia?

I am looking forward to see your pictures. Make sure to post them in success stories.

I didn't stop because of sides or it's lack of effectiveness. I took a month break because I had been advised from several sources that you should. Then tt took me to long to get my perscription renewed 2 months later after I had gotten back on and I missed out again. So, I didn't want to keep going on and off of it, so I didn't want to mess up hormone balance or anything else in my body. I decided to face the music and move on to something else. If my hair gets real bad, I promised myself I would go back to finasteride or start dutasteride
