You´ve said a couple of times "I have heard that genetical ingenering will take 20 years" and I feel that I must answer this.

Genetical ingenering is when you change the structure of DNA - of course that will take 20 years!! I bet it will take longer then 20 years!! we are talking about Stemcells and that´s totally different.

Genetical ingenering is where you give drugs or otherwise alter the DNA so that new proteins will be built - for that to be done you need to know exactly how 1 gene effects 30 000+ others and not only that but also the garbage DNA around that gene and well lots more - basiclly it´s going to take forever!! not 20 years!!

What we are talking about is growing structures out of stemcells!

You take a blank stemcell and find what triggers that stemcell to become certain tissue. This was done ages ago with bone marrow and it has already been done with pancreatic cells and teeth - they will start implanting teeth within 2 years.

Since Hair is not an endocrine organ or something that has any systemic effects it´s going to take alot less control before you start injecting hair stemcells.

I´m not saying it´s going to be finished tomorrow or next week but they have already found the genetic markers for hair follicles and now they need to find accessory cells and some other stuff - but it´s not 2020 it´s rather 2010.

Take care!

I'm not an expert in this field....
(Embryonal) Stemm stell research is actually forbidden in Germany and also for public research in the US as far as I know.

I tend to be quite sceptical of such estimations like "by 2010 we can heal hairloss with ....". I remember AI researchers stated in 1960 that in 1980 computers will be that intelligent that humans would be no longer needed. The MS-Word paper clip makes me feel that this estimation was perhaps a bit too optimistic....
There are always major drawbacks when developing anything out of theory, there are numerous examples. Note that medical research is always a trial and error process.

Maybe it will be possible, the important questions are:

- Can a normal person (like me) afford that ?
- Will it be approved for the (cosmetical problem of) hairloss since there is always a threat.

OK. Suppose you can grow hairs out of stemmcells. Then they must be implanted into your scalp, which is basically a hair transplant without extracting donor hairs, isn't it ?

Certainly the industry has a high interest in developing the ultimate hairloss-treatment or cure with which one they can earn more money than with an HIV-treatment so we can be sure that a lot of research will be done. There is always hope.

[Corrext me if I'm wrong in any point.]

I hate that f*****g Microsoft paperclip.

It always 'pops up' right when I am in the middle of some furious typing, throwing off my rhythm, offering me stupid suggestions.

Boiiiing, or whatever stupid sound effect it plays and then, "DID you know that there may be a better way to wipe your ***?.. CLICK HERE to LEARN MORE!"

I KNOW WHAT THE f*** I AM DOING, MISTER GATES. Please call off your attack paperclip and let me get some work done!

Yeah, I know there is a way to do it, and I tried it. I went to this menu and that, hit a few buttons, got to the "windows setup" menu, chose "disable assistant", and hit the button.

I thought I had it until my computer started TALKING back to me... saying "Dave, this is HAL. Are you SURE you want to do that, Dave?"

I freaked out. f*** that.

You want to f*** with Microsoft? You fuckin try it. I'm not messing with my data.

Sehr geehrte Bismarck !

I may be in Berlin next year for an extended period, and I would like to know in advance how difficult it will be to obtain or import:

1) minoxidil

and

2) dustasteride (or propecia).

vielen Dank!

Gittes,

I think it should be no problem to import it if it's for your own use and not too much (2 bags full with tabs).

It is also possible to get minoxidil, Propecia [and Avodart] by prescription although it be difficult to get a prescription for Avodart since it is not approved for hairloss.
You can also try to order them via the Internet (withhout prescription).

Try to avoid Berlin-Kreuzberg !

I would also like to know how to kill Windows Messenger. Its the only program that refuses to let me exit it, even though "exit" is one of the menu options when you right click on it.

Hmmm...
Gardener, I'm sure Bill Gates holds parts of Merck and Pharmacia. The paperclip is used to increase your stress-hormone cortisol. This increased cortisol-level also makes you have more androgens in your blood. Therefore your hairloss is worsened and you have to buy products of his companies. So he earns money twice.
Ken has revealed this and wants to get richer than Bill by claiming the rights for the name "Pocket-PC" and by (as we all know) launching a product that makes Propecia and Rogaine unnecessary.
