When I scratch my head in the frontal temporal region. A bunch of tiny hairs start falling out. Just wondering what this means? Is that a shed?

A shed happens when hairs are in that 3rd stage Telegen(sp?). The hair usually grows back if it is not in the severe stage of male pattern baldness where it pretty much won't grow any more dark/long hairs.

If you are on treatment these hairs can grow back darker and longer after every shed+regrowth.

Also since you are scratching your head you could just be breaking the hairs?

in the area of my previous hairline I am noticing some noticable hair coming out which are not too week.. they are getting longer but not as thick.. I am not sure what exactly are vellus hair but these seem to be sticking out pretty strong.. I have been using rogaine and propecia religiously now..

what could it be?

That has to be hair growing from minoxidil.

Well there are weaker hairs, hairs being affected by male pattern baldness, that can come out in a soft pull.

thanks incubsor!

is there any chance these come back stronger?

I have heard people say they get small fuzzy growth with minoxidil, but yours are long you say? The only way to find out is to continue with treatment and see if there is improvement after the next shed/regrowth cycle.

Seems to me that the small fuzzy growth from minoxidil doesnt get enough credit. This means the follicle is alive and it's producing hair albeit tiny, fuzzy, unpigmented. The follicle has to undergo a growth stage as it expands. No one just gains a terminal with the snap of a finger. It's a slow, slow process. That follicle producing that small vellus hair has the potential to expand and strengthen over time, which will grow a terminal hair after a few cycles. Someone back me up on this..

True dat.

They become terminal if you catch your male pattern baldness soon enough.

you don't even have to catch it "soon enough." Hell, Im getting terminals in places I haven't seen hair in over a decade. That "catching it soon enough" diatribe flies out the window. If you can grow vellus, it can possible one day produce a terminal. That follicle has gone NOWHERE, it's still there.
