ok...been on propecia for about 3 months now, and i haven't experienced any regrowth whatsoever. at the same time though, things haven't really gotten any worse either. so my question is this...to those who have regrown using propecia when did u first notice things really starting to fill in for you? i've heard that it takes 6-9 months for things to really get better on propecia and for some it takes a whole year. i'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect from here on out and when i can start feeling the joys of hair regrowth.

Cosmetically significant regrowth is by no means certain when a growth stimulant is not in play. IMO regrowth when using DHT inhibitors only should be considered a "bonus", as you are basically on a defensive regimen. That said, substantial regrowth on just finasteride is possible and the Success Stories section features many living proofs. I would not expect noticeable results before the 6 month mark if I were you.

Add Nizoral to the mix if you haven't already.

3 and a half months and i've noticed definite results. I'm not sure if there's actual regrowth but the existing hair has thickened to the point that it looks significantly better.

My advice would be to buzz your head as short as you dare and monitor closely from then. If the meds are inhibiting DHT as they should then results will be much more aparent if you buzz it and get rid of the out of condition DHT ravaged ends.

The hair will thicken from the root so any results you get will be easier to track with shorter hair.

It was about three and a half months for me when I had very noticeable results. I had a #3 buzz and there was a ton
of new re-growth.

Possibly a little sooner, but at the three month mark I was *certain* I was getting substantial regrowth and even began getting comments from friends and my hairdresser.

I guess 3 months is to early to notice regrowth with JUST using propecia. However, the OP should remember that Geminix hat phenomenal results by using estradiol patches.

Indeed, and valid point :)

been on finasteride just shy of 3months - some minor thickening noticed in areas but could be down to minoxidil. (im on big 3) dont seem to have any noticeable regrowth yet, male pattern baldness hair still lighter colour than non-male pattern baldness hair but is darker than what it was. hair seemed to worsen over first couple of months- some shedding experienced, could be down to baldness taking its course or the meds. last month things have improved however.

That is a good point freeloader... the hair that has grown back for me is lighter and finer than my
regular hair.

I have read articles about fibrosis occuring in hair follicles that have been subject to male pattern baldness for a prolonged period of time. It is by no means "proven" or strongly supported by studies, but it has been postulated as a reason why recovered hair on medical regimens may never fully return to the way "normal hair" appears.

Personally, I have noticed that existing hairs are coming in MUCH thicker. A little hair on my temple that I had since noticed fell out came back a few days ago. It was the strangest thing to witness.

I'm on the same boat. I've been on minoxidil for more than 3 months now. I think I am getting some regrowth but nothing significant yet. I'm hoping the hair that has been kicked into action will catch up with my existing hair in the next few months. So, I have to wait a few more months before jumping into conclusions.

I think one of the biggest problems on this board is that someone asks "How long before I see regrowth on finasteride?" and people with extensive regimens that include every hair loss product under the sun reply "3 months and I had an afro!" I don't want to be mean, but I think that only people that use nothing else but finasteride or have finasteride-only experiences should reply to these posts. For instance, Casperz is using a butt load of topicals and GeminiX was changing his chemical make-up to become a woman.... now if their posts reflect on a time when they were using only finasteride then that is a valid post, but if they used all the meds simultaneously then there is no way to pinpoint their success to finasteride and the post is rendered useless in my opinion.

Alright in THAT case, then I think the Big 3 kids should give you insight, as for me I been on finasteride only for 2 months now and Im recovering from a shetty shed.

To expound, I was on minoxidil 5% for over 2 years and it was no longer keeping my hair loss at bay.. I maintained my "hair line", but I began to see diffuse thinning. Added finasteride about 6 weeks ago. Currently weathering a shed that just started this week (hair FALLS when i run my hands through my hair!!). I guess it could be stress-related because I'm studying for a huge exam.

At any rate, I am still confident that finasteride is going to be effective for me. I will let you guys know if I notice any significant regrowth (I noticed some hair diameter thickness increase at my right temple already...). I have 11 months before I make a decision whether to continue finasteride or not. So far, the jury's still out.

I agree that people should take a look at anyone's regime before they draw there own conclusions about the results that
person has gotten, that is why I post mine in my sig. I feel certain that had I been on finasteride alone I would not have the
results I have had. I'd love to have the results that GeminiX had but I'm not willing to start taking female hormones to
achieve it, so clearly I've based my decision on reading and evaluating her regime. But I also feel I can respond to a
generic question, had they asked "If I ONLY take finasteride, how long before I see results?", I might not have responded.

Also consider that maybe someone that is on finasteride 3 months and does not see results might consider a topical or
something like that. I know that if I was on finasteride for 3 months and not seen any results it might have been hard to
continue.
