Time For Change. Going For A More Mature Look.

I have been a daily user of all monofilament hairpieces for the last 40 years. This has served me very well since it is very warm and humid where I live. The time has come to move to a more mature look, lighter density, add some grey hairs perhaps showing a hairline. I gather this means going for lace systems, but would like to keep removing it on a daily basis both for the comfort of sleeping and extending its life. Any suggestions. I would be interested in knowing of reputable online international suppliers and in the UK.

Wow 40 years experience of wearing hair pieces. You must have a lot of stories to share. Anyway, I started wearing about a year ago and find 0.03mm skin base HS (UTS) are the best ones for me (BTW, I wear french lace too ). They are okay to sleep in and keep it on 10-15 straight days but Im not recommended. I like my scalp to be washed every night and morning so I prefer daily remove. I did wear my first french lace system to sleep for couple weeks when I first started wearing it a year ago. I got used to it until I learned about the combination of skin system and Got2B glue. Right now there is no way I would actually sleep with HS or keep it on for that many days but let say 2-3 days it's okay for me. I was traveling south east Asia for 2 weeks last month and it was muggy, extremely hot, humid , pouring rain everyday. I feel very comfortable wearing UTS and good soild hold using Got2B.

I bought all my hair systems directly from China supplier without going through any middle person. Youtube videos is my instructor. It save me tons of money.

There are no suppliers or specialist salons where I live, so have been researching in the internet, but it is difficult deciding on an online supplier. I would appreciate any recommendations.

It depends on your budget.

My budget is around $1000 per annum. I think french lace would be best for me since I sweat a lot in summer.

I'm new to this and trying to follow what your saying. Which kind of basses are the ones you should/shouldn't sleep in, and which could be removed daily? French lace, combo, thin skin?

They are all sleepable and both base systems can be removed daily. My attachment methods show as below, it can react differently due to the different body chemistry. You won't know what works best for you unless you do some experiments. I have oily skin and sweat a lot so I thought Got2b won't work for me. Surprisingly, Got2b works great for my skin type even in the extremely hot and humid weather.

Short term (remove daily or 2-3 days):
For lace base or lace and skin base system: I prefer Walker 1522 tape for the perimeter and hairline because the clean up is so much easier. Just peel it off the old tapes from the base without leaving any residue.

For skin base: I prefer to use Got2b gel because it only takes a few minutes to rinse off the gel from the skin base without getting the hair wet.

Long term wearing (10-15 plus days):
For lace base or lace and skin base system: I use walker waterproof lace front blue tape, very strong tape that can hold for a few weeks. The downside: need to use C-22, Walker Lace Release or isopropyl alcohol to clean up.

For skin base: I use either Esha Absolute or Ghostbond apply to the entire skin base. Or use Walker Ultra Hold around the perimeter on both sides and hairline.

@Hair Newbie is lucky insofar as he can get such a strong & reliable attachment from Got2B Glued (Yellow Bottle). I use it on my hairline daily when it begins to lift. I wouldn't trust it for anything else.

It also seems to work way better on Thin Skin systems than lace ones.

The porous base w/ French or Swiss lace allows for the Got2B to seep into the roots of the hair, causing, at times, tangling - sometimes extreme. I ruined a few-day-old system owing to this.

...

Why wouldn't you opt for a grayer mono system, given your 40-year use of that type?

What kind of adhesive do you use for daily removal?

...

I've only had french lace systems. I started off removing daily, but it caused too much wear & tear on my system.

Now I carefully tape the perimeter w overlapping tape and install well, seeking the longest bond, which has been 5 days so far.

I would prefer to remove as needed (home, sleep) but it's too damaging and too much work.

I'm pretty sure no base type is intended for daily removal except mono...

@golfgti : From pics, I can't tell the difference between monofilament and lace; they look the same. What type of scalp visibility do you get w a modern mono unit? How hot are they? And what type of adhesive do you use so as to be able to remove and re-attach per daily? Also what type of perimeter do your mono pieces have?

For lace base, I must wait till the G2B , Ghostbond or Esha glues completely dried up to do the attachment otherwise the glue will go through the laceholes and gets to the hair, it makes cleanup very difficult. By the way, I only use Got2b black tube. Haven't tried the yellow tube yet.

What kind of adhesive do you use for daily removal?
water or 91% isopropyl alcohol

Thanks so much! Seems like tape would be better since it won't get allbinto the bottom of the hair shafts like glue would? Glue looks more realistic though right? Is either easier to apply for someone inexperienced?

Which do you think would cause more damage, washing it regularly, or taking it off to wash it regularly? I don't want to wait 4 days in between every time I want to wash my scalp.

.

I use tape for the hairline when I wear lace system and my hairline is fully exposed. Personally, I think tape for the hairline can look natural and undetectable too.

This is one of the video I learned it from

When I started using hair systems there was no internet, no online buying, not much information around so I had to rely on the advice of my hairdresser. He has always supplied all my systems from a wholesaler in the UK, mostly mono since he insisted they were the most durable and versatile given the hot and humid climate where I live. They have a poly embedded perimeter, always attached with tape. If I go swimming I then shampoo it every time I get back from the beach. He has also supplied me with tape rolls, unbranded. So really cannot tell you much about apart from the fact that I've never had any problems. However I have always had my hairline unexposed and have slept with it in hospital and kept itt on during surgical operations.
It is only because my hairdresser has passed away, that I have started researching and need to take action fairly soon. I see this as an opportunity to have a more mature look. I have in mind either mono with french lace front or a full french lace system. I would think french lace is better for a lighter density and add some grey inkeeping to my age. Also perhaps have an exposed hairline. Some time in the future I will do without a HS, but would like it to be gradual more descrete process. At the moment I see myself much better with it than without and in any case don't have the courage right now to remove it permanently. I started losing my hair at the early age of 16 and found it very traumatic. It still hurts when thinking about the past.

Hi!
Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
I want to try use Got2b (only yellow tube available in Russia) bcz I prefer not more than 3 days lasting wearing.
Can you describe how you apply this product on skin base? Do you work with perimeter of system only or with whole base? Are you waiting for the gel to harden before to set up your system? And can I use only this gel without any tapes for 1-2 days wearing?
Thank you.

I don't know about the Got2b yellow tube? From what I heard the black is stronger than yellow.

This is my morning routine:
1. Spray water on the hairline and comb hair back.
2. Flip the HS upside down on the mannequin head or bowl.
3. Wipe the skin base with 91% alcohol.
4. Apply a small amount of Got2b gel on the skin surface.
5. Spread them out and apply the entire surface as thin as possible

I find the best way to achieve maximum hold by applying a very thin layer of Got2b and wait 2.5 minutes until the gel is almost completely dry, that gives me a stronghold for 2-3 days. These is just me so it might not work out on other people. I don't know why thinner or less Got2b is better?

6. 2-minute brush teeth time while waiting Got2b dry up.
7. Spray a mist of 91% alcohol on the skin base for positioning.
8. Attachment.
9. Style hair and ready to go out.

This procedure takes about 5-10 minutes now. When I used to have my bio hair, I spend at least 30-45 minute doing my hair every morning so hair system really save me a lot of time. People said to wait 24 hours later to do an exercise after attachment but I go to the gym an hour later to start running on the treadmill or elliptical. My forehead started dripping sweat like waterfalls after 15-20 mins running uphill on the treadmill and I usually run about 45 mins so you can imagine how much sweat coming down on my face. Yes, the bond is slowly breaking down or maybe less sticky but the HS still holding on my scalp nice and tight. When I have done with the cardio. I do 30 to 45 mins weight training exercise, handstand for stretching. By the time I have done, my sweat is all dry up and surprisingly the got2b is a bond on my scalp nice and tight again like before I walk into the gym. I shower (use a shower cap to cover up the HS) and leave the gym without doing any hairline touch up. The hair system still stays on my scalp nice and tight the next morning. I go to the gym next day doing the same routine and I can feel the bond is weaker than the first day but it didn't give me any trouble. When I remove the whole system on the second day at night, I have to use a small amount of force to peel the system off from my scalp without using any solvent to remove it. I just use cold water to rinse the skin base to wash off all the gel without getting the hair wet. It only takes about less than a minute to do that now.

One time I was sweating like crazy in a motorcycle helmet (That day was over 90F/ 33C). I can feel the bond is breaking down badly when I removed the helmet. Fortunately, the weather here is pretty dry so I just wait a few minutes late and then the hair system feels nice and tight on my scalp again. I'm sure it won't have any issue if I use walker 1522 tape , Ghostbond, Ultra Hold or Esh glues... on that day.

The below comment is what I said before I went to Southeast Asia, but after spending a few weeks there. It proves to me that Got2b and skinbase work on my oily scalp and humid climate countries too.

I think if I live in humid countries or States like New Orleans or Southeast Asia, Got2B is not going to work out for those humidity climate countries.

Refinement. Do you apply gel on skin base of system or at skin of your head?
Unfortunately, I can't find Got2b Ultra glue in Russia.

I say removal, but I can't say decidedly.

Neither is good.

If you detach prematurely, you will lose a lot of hair in the tape-removal process...

BTW I've heard with both Got2B bottles, yellow and black, that "mixing" them with the freeze-hold hairspray adds a tremendous amount of trackiness to the products, making for stronger attachments. I don't know how they're combined, but I read it on the Toplace forum, where there is a comprehensive section on Got2B...

On the skin base.
The way I do it is very simple. I squeeze a small amount of Got2b on my fingertip, spread the gel evenly on the hair system skin base. Let the gel to dry for 2 minutes. Than attachment. I don't use any scalp protector but many wearers are higher recommend scalp protector to get the best bond possible.
