Just found out hypothyroidism runs in the family and after doing some research some of the symptoms line up with what I've been experiencing the past few months. I don't want to self-diagnose myself so I plan on seeing a doctor soon to do some blood work and will keep all you guys updated, but in the meantime what role does thyroid imbalances have in hair loss, especially temporal hair loss, if any?

It can modulate hair follicle cycle function.
So when your level of thyroid hormones are insufficient or excess it can alter hair follicle cycle function, which can result in telogen effluvium. It's not common at all though.

I've actually thought I've had Telogen Effluvium for a long time now as my hair has been shedding a lot from almost everywhere, it's just the only place I noticed actual recession was near my temples. What made me think it might be a thyroid condition is the fact that a close family member (and a couple distant ones) have gotten diagnosed with a thyroid condition which led me to believe it might run in the family. Either way I got blood work done yesterday and am waiting on the results.
