is being certified by [www.abhrs.com],a good rule of thumb that you are dealing with well qualified DR's, or is it still a crapshoot? second, is it important to stay on minoxidil etc after a H\T,which seems to me to defeat the purpose of getting one in the first place. is there anyone on the list that someone would not be happy with. thanks for everyones time

There is no board certification for hair transplants. I beleive the ABHRS was created by a few doctors to add credibility to themselves. I personally would run from the abhrs is kind of a rouges gallery. Also the ISHRS is not a test of competency or ethics. I think the only credible org. is the IAHRS. Its still a crapshoot.

Leeds,

Don't trust any hair transplant association. It's not like the medical boards or something, any doctor can perfom hair transplants, so just keep that in mind. Stay around these boards long enough and you'll get the picture of which docs are doing the best work on a consistent basis.

Many people use minoxidil and finasteride in conjunction with transplants to strengthen the hair they have, and to grow some hair back if possible. It's one of those things where you want to try and keep as much of your hair as possible, since you will continue to lose hair after a transplant in all likelihood. The meds will slow things down at the very least, and hopefully save some of the hair on top of your head that you might otherwise lose.
