That doesn't make sense to me. However considering I will be getting my first hair system the first week of December I like to know, can I buy any hairspray at Target and use it on my hair system or is he wrong???

Hi and welcome. I have used hairspray on my piece without any problems. Mind you I used alcohol free as I did not want to interfere with the bond. I have also used gels, pomade even brylcreme...
The key is not too much to create buildup on your hair... I wash piece once a week.
Experience with different things and stick with what works best for you. In the end, for me, I prefer to use a pomade that has a waxy feel to it, but isn't sticky. It does bring shine to hair.
