This can't be a normal shed, can it?

Hey all, I plugged my sink, let the water run then get my head under the water for about a minute while gently rubbing my scalp. I counted just about each individual hair and there were just about 70 hairs that fell out from all over my head while the water was rinsing above. Just for the record I shampooed my hair at 18:00pm yesterday and did the rinse today at 14:00pm, so 20 hours passed since I shampooed. I think I've been shedding at this rate for quite a while. Is this considered normal?

^That's a day though, the average person who isn't even balding loses at least 100 a day, this guys talking about losing 70 in only 1 minute after probably already losing even more earlier showering.

I've never really counted or followed how much I lose a day or try this sink plugging thing, because I'd get too freaked out.

I'm shedding around 100-300 hairs a day at the moment, so in comparison, that's nothing! Also, whats your regimen?

I was on 1mg Propecia ED for almost 6 months until I ordered some Dutas (Dr. Reddy's), since then I've been alternating between 1mg Propecia and 0.5mg Dutas everyday, I've been doing this for about a month and a half. I'm not sure if it's just because I started introducing Dutas that I'm shedding like this, because if I recall correctly I was shedding quite bad even before with just propecia.

I wonder if Toppik has something to do with shedding, I use that pretty much everyday...

For shampoo I just use Head & Shoulder, right now I think I have the menthol one.
I think I'll start RU58841 soon enough, just need to find a legit place to order from, and will probably opt for making a 10% formula.

I keep seeing people mentioning Head and Shoulders on here and it's just like the worst shampoo I can think of.

Yikes. Head & Shoulders, the only shampoo I used for years... Hated it. It got rid of my dandruff for a day, and then my dandruff will return next morning. It was a temporary solution, plus it made my hair quality like ****.

Apple Cider Vinegar completely got rid of my dandruff for good.. Emu oil and some other oils make my hair feel amazing. They're really useful for improving the quality of your hair.

As far as shedding, I think its normal for you to shed that much based on your regimen. Everyone goes through a MASSIVE shedding at one point.

And I think lots of people use Head and Shoulders, so I guess it's fine. But my experience with it wasnt good.

In that case I'll ditch the H&S shampoo, I don't even have a dandruff problem it's just what I had around the house and kept buying more, I saw some people using it on the forum so I thought it was a decent shampoo. I got some of Bragg's ACV, I could mix it with water and use it for a rinse, I'll also get some Emu oil, that sounds good. By the way what shampoo could you recommend? Surely I assume you use a shampoo to rinse off the emu oil, otherwise I heard people use stuff like yolks to wash it off which sounds like a bit of a hassle.

As for the shedding, it just feel like my hair is so weak, falls out so easily when touched. I'm not gonna quit cuz I got nothing to lose except more hair with or without the meds I'm shedding anyway, gonna stick to dutasteride & finasteride (alternating each day between them) for a whole year at least. I have to get something topical asap as well, possibly RU58841.

My only ever experiences of Head and Shoulders were in my early to mid-teens I believe, and obviously I wasn't as concerned about shampoo/hair care at this time, but ironically enough it actually caused flaky blotchy skin and dandruff compared to just a normal cheap shampoo.

But besides my own personal trauma with it, the crap in it just screams for anyone with hair loss to not go near it. The only guys who can afford to are strong NW1's who barely know what it's like to lose a hair or have skin issues.

Head & Shoulders is rubbish. My brother used it in an attempt to treat his own seborrhoeic dermatitis and it made his scalp itch even worse and dried out his hair. I told him to use Nizoral 2% followed by a moisturising conditioner and his seborrheic dermatitis never returned.

I was forced to use it once back in grade 8 during a school trip to Taiwan as it was the only shampoo available to us at the time (we were staying at a youth hostel and the teachers only brought H&S for us to use). Keep in mind I had lovely thick hair back when I was 13 and H&S dried it out thoroughly which was quite alarming for me at the time since it made my hair look like straw, a sight I've never seen in the mirror up until then. Needless to say I only washed my hair once that week, I didn't want to further subject myself to that terrible shampoo.

It's funny because now I've attained a skill for being able to tell who uses H&S. A friend of mine complained about how his hair had become hard to manage and looked like pubic hair (not even kidding), I asked him if he used H&S, he looked surprised and told me he did.

H&S is generally used by cheap bastards uninformed about quality hair products. If for some reason you don't feel like using the stronger antifungal shampoos (ketoconazole, ciclopirox olamine) or would like a cheap yet decent quality shampoo to use on your off days then just use Selsun Blue (a selenium sulphide shampoo), it's the same price as H&S but better for your hair. My mum uses it occasionally if she gets an itchy scalp from product buildup and only has good things to say about it and she is very picky about her hair.

Selsun Blue is also silicone-free if that matters to you whereas H&S contains dimethicone, a silicone derivative (again, no one has replied to my initial thread on silicone and its ability to impede absorption of topical scalp medications, as Regaine Australia's website mentions this but with no evidence to back it so this is still an unknown)
