To preface, I am a new user and a first-time poster.
So today, I went to a dermatologist after getting a referral from my pediatrician and all he had to offer was the possibility that my hair loss had something to do with a thyroid problem. I can't blame the guy for being the bearer of bad news, but it's crazy that he literally had no advice except for general information about minoxidil and finasteride which can be found anywhere on the internet. I was a little depressed after hearing the harsh reality of male pattern baldness as it doesn't make me any less self-conscious about myself or about the inevitability of hair loss. Honestly, I created this thread to get some reassurance that I'm not alone.
p.s kinda disgusting
I had a ringworm infection in my scalp when I was around 15 and I somehow believe that it might be linked to my current thinning/balding ... I would consistently scratch my scalp and yellow gooey chunks of scalp would fall out along with some of my hair. At first, I didn't take the Fluocinolone Acetonide Topical Solution 0.01% that I was prescribed due to the intense burning and stinging sensations, but recently I started using it to see if anything would happen. So far nothing, but flaking. These two problems probably have nothing to do with each other, but I still want to cling onto some hope that it isn't genetic. Lastly, my father is partially bald, but he didn't start losing hair until he was around his late 30s. My uncles from both my mom's and dad's side also have a good head of hair. Oh well, attached are pictures of my hair. *cries*
