HI guys i have absolutely NO family histoyr on either my mother or fathers side of male pattern baldness(male pattern baldness) whatsoever. Ive done a little research and there has been no hair loss as far as i can go back (great grandfathers). My dad is in his mid 50's with a full head of hair and no thinning or receedign in any way. All of my uncles also have thier hair. What effect does genetics have with potential hair loss? Im a 21 year old healthy college student but my hair has been thinning at a pretty rapid pace(diffuse thinning i think its called from what ive read here) for the past 6 months. What could be goign on here?

Did you see a doctor and get some bloodwork done? Did your thyroid get checked? Even if you did research your family history till your great grandfathers you might have it from one of your great-great grandfathers.

is it thinning only in male pattern baldness Areas? in other words, are your back and sides NOT thinning? if it's just your male pattern baldness areas that are thinning then u can stop your research because it's male pattern baldness. doesn't matter if u can't find where your gene came from. it's there so get on finasteride or dutasteride ASAP. however, if your whole head is thinning then it could be something else and i suggest u going to a derm for it. good luck!
