I am currently 17 years old, 18 within the next few months experiencing some hair loss on the corners of my forehead and a little on the temples. Noone, in my family is bald that I know of but my dad who is 48 is just now balding. So now im wondering what exactly is going on here. Anyways, it's not to bad but it is making me worry since there is slight bald spots on the corners but not much and then some thin hair.

Now, I have been taking biotin on and off. Just take it whenever I remember. Have been taking it for a few years now. Wondering if there is any long term effects or is it completely safe? Does it have any effects on the external looks of your hair over time, such as flat or greasy hair?

I've also have managed to pick up the habit of smoking cigarettes within the past year but have managed to quit JUST today. How badly, if at all, can smoking effect the balding process? I also smoke marijuana on almost a daily basis for the past year, but really doubt it has anything to do with my hairloss, but if anyone has actually found info saying it can, let me know.

other than that, im just wondering why it's happening at such an early age. kinda scary.

Also, i've been using Dandruff shampoos for my itchy/flaky scalp that started about a year an half ago but the shampoos have helped for the most part but wanted to know if any of these products I should be careful with that could actaully make my thinning even worse. So far i've been switching between Nizoral 1% and Selsun Blue(Daily) and then i'll use Denorex just on the weekends. Would like to know if any of these could damage my hair long term and what shampoo do you people with itchy/flaky scalps most reccomend cause I would really like to find just one good Dandruff Shampoo instead of switching in between em. Also, what are some regular shampoos that you use and what kinda rotation do u use weekly between the two?

Thanks

As far as I know, stuff like Nizoral should only be used once-twice a week (as it says on the directions).

It's normal for your hairline to move up a little bit as you become an adult. Hell, your skull is still growing.

For those with dry scalps, it's generally advised to swap shampoos and conditioners whenever you finish a bottle. I use T-Gel, Selsun Blue, and H&S on M,W,F. I use another shampoo for dry hair, but I may be looking at Jason's Thin to Thick someday.

My hair was thinning since the end of jr. high school, which would have placed me at the age of 15. All through highschool I was dredfully upset and paranoid of this and it did consume my life. The summer I graduated from high school I buzz my head with a buzzer without the little plastic attachment. it looked amazing on me and later that summer got a razor to shave it completely. I have been happy since that day. I wish I had buzzed/shaved it in high school. I played football and hockey so it would have been accepted socially (some people normally ask me what others thought initially).

Its difficult for me to say not to worry since I certain did, but the sooner you come to peace with the situation the better. Start some form of treatment and perhaps buzz your hair and start living life.

If your scalp is red then it means that it's imflammated (like my scalp was 3 months ago). Nizoral helps lower/eliminate that inflammation. Also what I've noticed, the hairs that fall out now, not all but some, as you look from the tip of the hair to the core, the shaft of the hair gets thicker in diameter.

I'm not sure if this is due to Nizoral but I've only been on finasteride and minoxidil for 1 month so I'm assuming nizoral IS doing something helpful to my hair. I've been on nizoral for about 3.5 months.

Overall, Nizoral cannot hurt you and there are no side effects. I use Nizral 2% shampoo, which contains 2% ketoconazole (keto is just an active ingredient in the shampoo).
