Hey all.
About 6 month ago I saw a picture of myself at a wedding, and I emmediatly saw how thin my hair has gotten - when I saw that it felt like both a kick in the balls and punch in the stomach. Guess I shouldn't really have been surprised since there's not a single man in my family that has been able to keep their hair beyond 30. Anyway, since then I've been frantic in trying to find some way to stop (and hopefully reverse at least a little) my increasingly thinning hair.

So I found this place and thought if there's anywhere I could ask for advice it would be here. I'm considering going on finasteride (1mg/day) and maybe add minoxidil as well. I'm a little freaked about all the horror-stories about sideeffects of finasteride though - mainly weightgain and gyn. Does anyone know if there are any signs if you are developing gyn? itchy nipples or something? or can it just sneak up on you?
Also, would it be prudent of me to have my hormone levels checked? I'm on SSRI antidepressents, and I think they might also be affecting hormones to some degree. I'm wondering if low testosterone or high testosterone levels might increase the risk of sideeffects?
I really don't know much about any of all this, and my doctor never even heard of finasteride, so she wasn't much help when I asked her:/
Hope someone knows some of this.
thanks.

I don't know that it will interact with an SSRI. Seritonin is a neurotransmitter (short range, specific communtication), testosterone is a hormone (long-range, general communication). They are operating at different levels in your body.

To the extent that people have gino, my understaning is that it is so rare(I don't even know that it is a catalogued side effect or one that the internet invented...there are many of those) there is know way to know the warning signs. Honestly, I wouldn't go looking for such info on sites like this. There are a lot of people who simply are afraid of medicine and will say whatever to scare others away.

gyno induced finasteride only occurs in 1/250 cases. Nothing to be scared about. finasteride does not cause weight gain. As far as I know low/high test has no highly correlated relationship with sides

I recommend starting both finasteride and min
