Although I have been on propecia now only about 5.5 months or so I really dont feel it's going to be worth it...I have 0 side effects, but I think its a totally different game when you're hit with diffuse thinning. The doctor told me my thinning is pattern, but I am afraid it will turn unpatterned because my dad has some thinning on his back hair and I already got thinning somewhat on my sides...its jus fuken pointless even for maintenace...and if you get regrowth...well I haven't seen any good pictures of diffuse recovery probably because its hard to improve cosmetically...I just hope multiplication hits soon...but I was hesitant to buzz my head until I found this picture...looks kind of gay lol but the dude on the right has almost 100% my head shape...and it doesnt look so bad

if you can't commit for even a year to taking one tiny pill a day then you have absolutely no hope in this hairloss game. this whole stuff about diffuse/non-diffuse needing different treatment, is all heresay and has no basis in fact.

although if you feel you can keep your hair cosmetically acceptable without treatments till 2009-10 then go for it. if i didnt have to take finasteride i wouldnt

It's not that I am not commited...hell no...I have never missed a dose always taking them @ 8ish AM..I can commit to anything if I want to...but I just have never seen anyone with good success pics from diffuse thinning and just wonder if its really worth it (esp $$ wise)

finasteride is everyone's best bet, since it's the most effective treatment for male pattern baldness on the market, but it's definately your best bet being a diffuse thinner, since its an oral med and makes sure everywhere on your head is treated effectively.

Topicals would be much harder to apply, and much more of a hassle.

Stick with finasteride, you can't judge until you've gone a year

plus chopping and changing your regime due to pics you see on the internet? less than .001% of propecia users will have posted pictures of their hairloss on the internet but your willing to let that miniscule percentage guide your decisions? i don't know the exact number but 80something% of finasteride users kept the hair they had.

finasteride is your best bet at the moment, its as simple as that.

Well alright...you guys convinced me...I'll @ least finish off my next 3 weeks or so of meds...since I already have a month supply bought...and visit my derm this month and see what he says (he only gave me a 6 month supply for now and to come in for reevalution) but regardless I am going to buzz my head like in that pic.

as far as my hair has been concerned short hair has made my hairloss far less noticeable. buzzcut very good idea i think. plus you think about your hair less when its short, always a good thing.

Propecia is a tricky drug.

The recommendation from the Propecia website is to wait 6-12 months before you notice any results.

You haven't even made it to 6 months.

Keep going, man.

If you are maintaining your hair, that means that Propecia is working. If you aren't satisfied with the results a few months down the road, add Rogaine.

Just be patient. You'll be glad you did.

i would stick it out. i'm diffuse and have been taking finasteride since june of 2001. when i started my hair was in great shape but falling out like mad. since that time, it has definitely lost density, but i wear a buzz cut and nobody can tell (so far).

i have added minoxidil and dutas to my regimine but its hard to say whether these drugs have done anything. i continue to lose tons of hair on a daily basis as it seems i have been in a constant shed for over 5 years. that being said, with a very short hair style, i look like i have zero hairloss.

i am skeptical of all these hairloss drugs, but i'm 5 years in and not bald, so that is why i would advise you to hang in there.
