Thick Terminal Hair Falls, and simply does not grow back?

Over the course of the last 6-9 months ive noticed a thinning all over, now normally when a hair is miniturized it gets shorter and shorter. The hair just behind my hairline was relatively filled in about Oct-Nov last year, and then i had a minor shed around xmas, then a major one around feb-march (6 weeks after starting propecia). When i get up close in the mirror, i cant even see vellus hairs where these hairs used to be, keep in mind the hair that fell out must have been more then 6 inches long (it was cut, so probobly longer then that) and relatively healthy.

I assume if my male pattern baldness was THAT aggresive that it took such a healthy hair and just killed it outright, skiping the whole miniturization thing, id be substantially worse off by now, considering its been nearly 5 months or more since this hair fell...

So whats going on, is there possibly something else at play here? that is perhaps keeping some of , if not alot of the hair in a temporary (i hope) dormant phase? and is this even possible?

Also, if a hair falls out due to anagen effluvium, do you have to wait the full cycle the hair would normally have grown for, befroe expecting that particular follicle to start growing a new hair?

Any terminal hair that falls is just a shed. With m.p.b its a gradual process the hairs will miniturize first and still grow back even a little more minaturized each time. The cycle (growth cycle) will get shorter each time and the resting phase of the shed gets longer until it eventualy becomes permanant.
I've never heard of a terminal hair being killed straight off.

That's exactly what i thought, which does lead me to believe something else must be at play here... ahhh it's so frustrating!

So your hair falls and just doesnt grow back / get's killed outright?

Do you have your hair long or short?

When did you been experiencing male pattern baldness? Which Norwood are you?

I never had a shed...no hair in shower no hair on pillow no hair anywhere...just the thinning process was slow and became more noticeable lately...

Sorry, hadn't been here for a while. My hair loss falls out without miniaturization and it's caused by an autoimmune condition (see sig). More correctly put it's not androgenic alopecia, it's alopecia areata. This doesn't mean it's necessarily easier or more difficult to treat, that all depends on what the underlying condition ends up being.

Brains, Thank you for your reply. You said that you `cured` your male pattern baldness, I remember reading a post of yours explaining your situation, after you resolved the underlying problem, did you hair come back? of was it a case of it just died and that was the end of it?
