It seems to be in vogue on this site to make epic claims about one's post, so I've now entered the gallery of men with Big Words.

My question (and it's a totally scientific one, I'm not considering this as a possible treatment): if one were to remove one's testicals, would one never lose hair again?

You didn´t answer his question.

It´s probable that you wouldn´t lose any more hair due to DHT - there are other reasons behind hairloss - age for instance.

no he never said you were wrong just that you did not answer his post. I believe that eunichs usually never have any hair loss, so my guess would be that you would essentially stop losing your hair.

The scientist James Hamilton carried out a lengthy series of studies from the 1940's to the 1960's in which he examined the effect of castration on hairloss. His conclusion was that castration prior to puberty will entirely prevent androgenetic alopecia. Castration AFTER puberty in a man who already has experienced androgenetic alopecia will stop further progression of the condition, but regrowth of lost hair is fairly minimal. That's the general basis for why we say that antiandrogenic approaches have natural limitations for regrowth.

This suggests, at least to me, that male pattern baldness is linked to testosterone as well as DHT.

It's hard to say for sure... finasteride and dutasteride enthusiasts could still say that the effect is actually mediated by DHT, rather than testosterone per se (if you remove most of the testosterone, you'll obviously have less DHT). I do think that there are other experimental results which put part of the blame on testosterone, but I don't think the case of the eunuchs can be included in that.

My point was that 'age' does not promote hair loss, 'age' is the description we give to a whole host of diseases that you are more prone to if you hang around long enough. Nobody dies from 'old age', nobody loses hair though age.
