How is this possible if DHT is produced from testosterone? This seems very unlikely unless castration suddenly triggers a vast increase in the production of 5-AR. You'd expect them to go down in equal levels, ceteris paribus.

Think about it: the fact that DHT falls off at a slower rate than testosterone implies that the amount of 5a-reductase is the limiting factor in DHT production, not the availability of testosterone. To put it another way, there's apparently more testosterone available than can be converted to DHT by the available 5a-reductase.

It's not true that getting rid of just one nut will have any real effect on male pattern baldness; a friend of mine who was suffering from male pattern baldness had to have one removed (cancer), and a couple years later he was basically as bald as he was on track to be. Anecdotal, but still makes sense, especially given the numbers provided by Bryan.

What if you cut off one testicle. Would that significantly reduce/slow down the balding process?

Oh dear, I hope some idiots didn't take that joke seriously! I know you are a fantastically good bloke, but there are some vunlerable guys and dolls out there who might go off the deep end. Seriously though, my beautiful girlfriend is asleep, snoring in bed, and I have zero sex drive, perhaps because of the finasteride, or is it because she likes me new hair more than me willy?
Oh yeah! Boru

Haha,
Boru, I was wondering where you went.

Any pics of your progress? I can only assume that you're getting some results.

My results are still patchy. Photos wouldn't do justice to the very fine new terminal hairs which are sprouting, it will take another few months before they look like something. I will post photos then, when I intend to get a scanner. At present I am in the process of winning a case I have been fighting under the Data Protection Act, which should lead to a nice bit of compensation from B&Q, to pay for a pretty nice new computer system, and lots of hair treatment stuff. The case started in 2004, when I was totally bald and one of B&Q's staff attacked me in the car park. Anyhow, he didn't reckon on my legal tenacity, and I managed to get the cctv video tapes. My MP supported me and the police are now reinvestigating. I'm lovin' it. Anything I do is 150% effort. Perhaps with this new hair on the way, my assailant won't even recognise me when it gets to county court. Life is full of downs, and ups!
