Is it possible to regrow hairs that I have lost in the past 3-4 years ? is full recovery possible on hairs that I have lost in the past year ?

Please answer everybody, so I can get a realistic idea of how much hair will regrow back. Please answer, even if your is a simple 'yes' or a 'no'

If you feel like, you may add comments, I need as much input as possible, because it would help me a great deal on what to expect.

Thanks everyone

It is possible to regrow hair lost in the last 3-4 years. A general rule of thumb people cite is that hair lost more than 5 years ago will probably not come back. I am not aware of any science that backs this up, but it seems reasonable.

As for regrowing hair that you've lost in the past year, again, it's possible, but not very likely that you will regrow all of what you've lost even recently.

My advice is to not obsess over how much you've lost and how much you might be able to grow back. You'll go crazy over the course of a year waiting for treatments to show results.

with finasteride and almost 4 months time I have new terminal hairs on my hairline and temples that I dont ever remember having and I am 30 years old. So the answer is YES! It's more than possible to regrow hairs that have been gone for 3 or 4 years and much longer.

What is "more than possible" supposed to mean?

noorur the truth of the matter is that it is possible to regrow hair but more likely that you will simply maintain and thicken up a bit. Thickening up is just causing velus or weak terminal hairs to become strong terminal hairs again. Regrowing hair on a slick bald surface is possible but rather unlikely and that is where this "five year rule" comes from.

if you are just NW2, going back to NW1 may not be possible at all.
However, if you don't take the treatments you can progress even to NW7.

I have velus hair all along my original hairline. can i 'thicken' them up and make them turn into normal thick terminal hairs again ?? those velus hairs along my hairline are visible if i look closely into the mirror. So, basically, i'm not trying to 'regrow' hair, I am looking to thicken up those velus hairs ??

oh common!

someone answer my question! i know there are people reading this, any form of response will help!

If i already have velus hairs at around where I am receeding, then I am not lookin to regrow, but to thicken ?

Does that make me a norwood 1 on the scale, considering I have tiny visible velus hairs along my original hairline and a recession with velus hairs there aswell ?

there is no "answer" dude! maybe is all your gonna get... Go into your treatment with low expectations and MAYBE you'll be surprised. I was loosing hair for nearly 20 years and decided to give it a shot and have grown back considerable hair in just over three months. Pretty sure it ain't all gonna come back but I look better than I did 4 years ago and I've only just begun. Chill baby!

noorur, like I said earlier, it you are NW2, that means you haven't lost much. You have very good chances of remaining at NW2 with just finasteride and nizoral.
If you want to jump gun and use xandrox 15 (only in the receding hairline), you might become nw1.5 or Norwood 1. However, the problem is that you can shed in the other regions of your scalp.

Like many others have stated, its too broad a question and everyone is different with the ways they respond to treatments. Generally, you are not going to regrow hair on any area of the scalp that is slick bald. You will also experience the best results on areas of the scalp that is further towards the back. The frontal hairline is the most difficult but not at all impossible. Hope this helped.

Here's your answer:

It is possible but unlikely.
