The haircut!

Almost everytime I get a haircut, i'm the only one there... i usually go in the morning before it gets busy, I go to this salon that I've been going to for the past 5 years, its great! So they lady that cuts my hair, obviously knows that I have thined out over the years but she has never said anything about it...she just cuts my hair, we have a good chat for a bit then I leave... Do you think she doesn't want to say anything because she knows it might mentally effect me? like i'll get depressed or something? At the same time I want to tell her what i'm on (finasteride) so she can spot any progress when I come back for another haircut. But at the same time it's good we don't talk about it, because it will kind of make me feel weird especially if the other people hear it if they are around.

You hairdresser is seeing tons of people every day with thinning hair - believe me she doesn't really think about it. I'm sure she know it's a bit of a sore spot for some guys (and girls!). Personally I wouldn't think twice about telling her about your male pattern baldness if you think she will be able to help you with spotting progress in the future - remember this is about you so you shouldn't give a rats arse about what she thinks...

Tell her!

My hairstylist knows I am on a regimen. And, before I got on it, this guy would give me so much sh*t about my thinning hair. Now, it was not anything really painful, but in the course of giving me a haircut he would say things like 'damn, you really had a shed' or 'your temples are getting kind of long'... I know this guy, and he doesn't mean anything bad with it, and we both had a good laugh over it. Before you go thinking that this guy is some a**h**, keep in mind that he reciprocates... this guy is kind of an older guy, he's 52, but tries to look 35. He has a really thick head of hair, but his hair is grey not only up top, but also his chest. This surprised me, but he told me he hides it by dyeing his hair, and, cough cough, he actually uses Just for Men gel on his CHEST HAIR!.. lol.. we both had a laugh at that.

My point is, don't take this sh*t so seriously. Sure, it is a problem, but everyone has problems and why let it get you down. Just be yourself and keep a smile.

Oh, and when I started my regimen I didn't tell a**h** at the salon. When I started getting some serious thickness in my center forehead area, he told me, 'damn, your hair is really thick!... you must be recovering from a shed?' I told him, 'dude, I am on Minoxidil, because I want you to stop giving me sh*t about it'. He said back to me, 'man, you are on THAT sh*t!? What are you thinking?'... and then we just laughed it off.

Stop trying to be perfect. Sure, we are fighting our hairloss, and making progress, but don't take it so deeply to heart. Keep some perspective!

I came into work once not knowing that my am minoxidil application had dripped onto my forehead a bit, leaving a white, powdery drip mark. Now, this is something I want to avoid completely, of course, but when a female coworker of mine who saw me first thing that morning told me I had a drip mark from my hair, I got a bit panicked... but, what the f***.. I just said, oh thanks for letting me know. She asked me, are you on Rogaine, and I said, 'Yes, I am!" She told me that she thought so, because her boyfriend uses it too. (Deep inside I was cracking up that her bf is struggling with the morning greasy mess that Rogaine causes, whereas I use Dr Lee)... but I just thanked her and went to the restroom and wiped it off. End of story.

People are at their best when they are comfortable being in their own skin, warts and all. Now, I am not saying that you should wear a t-shirt saying "I use Minoxidil" or anything like that, but what I am saying is that people admire other people who are comfortable with their weaknesses when confronted by them. Everyone on this planet has their own issues.

Where I go to get my hair cut the girl says that I am much better than some of the guys that come in. They really don't care about your hair. really they don't...

My Hairdresser is a friend of the family. When i first started shedding bad and i noticed my hair was getting thinner i told her its a bit thin in some places. She said i was about to say to you you was.and then she noticed it was thin on the side of my scalp and commented that ,that was out of the ordinary and through her i went to the doctors. The follow up hair cuts was her being honest saying its got a bit more thinner which i wanted to hear a honest opinion as i could see it myself.Last time she commented that it seems to be getting slightly better. And then she took me round the back of the shop and placed me under a bright light to check for regrowth as i wanted a honest opinion and she said i can see some sprouting up all along your hair margins. She is pretty good offers me advice like dont rub your scalp with a towel after you washed it just pat it etc.gave me some scalp treatment shampoo for free.

When I lived in WA state, my barber would look forward to seeing me to check on my progress with my regimen. He's an excellent barber and takes his job seriously and gets his own research in. After being on my treatment regimen for about two to three months, he said that he actually was very impressed as he saw hair growing where it had thinned out severely in my crown area. That was almost three years ago and I've kept the hair that has regrown.

Gardener, you know you're the sh*t. i would kill to have your perspective man. then again, you have thick hair now so its easy for you to be so comfortable :) i am going through a bit of a rough time myself. it makes no sense cause i'm hardly ever losing any hairs (like shedding) but somehow my hair seems a lot worse this past week. either way, if you geniunely have the perspective you seem to portray on this site, then, my man, you have got your sh*t together. you think maybe you could do the gardening sh*t on the side, and be a full time psychologist :)
i know everyone has problems, i just wish mine wasn't glaring at me in the mirror everyday, or beaming like a sign when i go out in the sun.
hats off to gardener!

I have came to a conclusion and my next visit to my barber I'm going to tell her what i'm doing to combat my hairloss. I'm 4 months into my regimen and I can say that my hairloss has completely halted, i'm hardly losing any hair in the shower and while styling. Aslo, my hair looks visibly thicker and im noticing little regrowth at the crown and at the hairline. My mom has made a comment to me recently saying "looks like your hair has gotten thicker" I know she's my mom and all but hey, that made me feel good! The best part is...my scalp has not been this healthy in years... this is good news people!

Welldone on the regrowth. Its good looking in the mirror and noticing the start of regrowth coming through.Even though its only in its early stages and it take time to grow. You start to feel better and know hopefully you are on the way to improvement :D
