when hair is balding... does the hair fall out as normal thick hair or does the folicle go through stages of thinning then once the individual hair is extremely thin it falls out............

i stopped taking propecia in beginning of november and started using rogaine and i just recently started to notice instead of 20-30 hairs being lost in shower tonight i lost 70.... alot of which were dark but extremely thin....

also could this increased hairloss be because of the propecia stop or should have the majority of that hair already been lost

please address all my comments, thank you!

Usually when you're balding the hair that falls out is thin because of the miniaturization of the hair follicle caused by DHT. This can happen over a period of years or, in some cases, I've heard of extreme miniaturization happening in just a couple of cycles.

From my understanding it can be up to a year or more before you lose all the gains made by propecia. The hair you are losing now might be the initial shed caused by using minoxidil. The minoxidil. is in essence stimulating your hair follicles to enlarge....thus pushing out the old thinner hairs, to allow the thicker, stronger hairs to grow. It could also be from stopping propecia 5 months ago or a combinatin of both. Really hard to say.

ok thank you... what about some of the hair that looks thick and healthy... since those follicles didn't miniturize per sey does that mean they should grow back???????

Did you notice if they had a white bulb on the end? If they did then more than likely they will grow back....these would have fallen out if whether or not you had male pattern baldness. Realize that at any given time 10% of the hair on your head is in the telogen phase is is destined to fall out within 90-100 days and will be replaced. In those with male pattern baldness they do tend to grow back thinner however, but since you are using minoxidil, good chance they will grow in just as thick if not thicker. By the way, why did you stop the propecia?

no ... last time i saw hair fall out with white bulbs was before i started propecia use, when i initially saw the hair was falling out

i stopped using propecia because of sexual side effects.... erections weren't as large and semen thinner... standard side effects... i still haven't fully recovered but i'd say its about 75% back to normal... hopefully next 25% is on the way.......

i'm concerned with the hairloss i noticed tonight because its first time since before propcia i lost lots of hair... 1/2 was extremely thin 1/2 was thick and healthy .... im currently using xandrox 5% and rogaine .... also nizoral 3 times a week..... i hope it stops soon because not onyl is my hairline receded.... but i lost the right temple area so if i let it grow it looks stupid... and when its short u can see diffuse thinning on top and a smaller round spot
