the appearance of your hair after a minoxidil application

Alright, I've been comtemplating getting on board the big 3 train, but various concerns persist nonetheless. Perhaps some of you minoxidil users can help me out with this one:

What does your hair look like after applying minoxidil? Does it look really wet/greasy (consequently: transparent and scalp revealing)?

I'm currently 21 years old and in University. Quite often I'll have girls/girlfriends sleeping over. I feel it would be....odd?....for me to apply something onto my scalp prior to getting into bed with one of these girls. Is it something that will go unnoticed? Or will the scene unfold like this: "What the f*** is in his hair....it looks like baby oil?"

If some of you minoxidil users could post pictures of your hair/scalp before and after a minoxidil application, that would totally slay.

Yeah it looks kinda crappy till it dries if you have thin hair but for me I dont really care too much. Im no longer embarassed about fighting my hairloss because I have regrown so much hair and I have so many people telling me how much better it looks.

As far as girls sleeping over, I dont make a secret out of using anti-hairloss products. But the first times we fool around I dont excuse myself to go and apply it afterwards, I wait until we are more famaliar. Like when they start taking their makeup off and putting creams and stuff on their face, its cool to start putting on the rogaine at night in front of them.

But Im a lot older than you ( 34 ) so maybe it would be more taboo being 21.

I have thin hair and I use the greasy kirklands minoxidil and yes it shows. I'm in the process of getting some of Dr. Lee's quick dry minoxidil for the morning and continue to use the really cheap stuff at night. In your case you can use the quick dry both in the evening and the night. Anyways, remember that this is a long term battle and missing one night is not going to make a huge difference in the results.

minoxidil definitly makes your hair look like crap. go w/ lee's 5% - $18 a bottle or something like that.

it's great - and totally un-noticeable.

That's also an option - but for me there's usually another before bed topical application that's even worse than generic 5 % minoxidil - like folligen, xandrox15, or revivogen. You can't even apply any of those and be seen in public :)

here is my take on it, ive been on minoxidil for about 3 years, over 1 of which i was in college. it kinda looks like your hair is wet so you can play it off like you just took a shower. you can also put some gel or whatever in it a little while after it absorbs which makes it look fine. i try to put it on 1hr before i leave in the morning, that way it is dry when i step out. also at night, i try to do it a few hours before i would be seeing a girl, if it was my girlfriend i would find a time. or skip a night if a girl is involved. you want to put it on a while before you go to bed so its absorbed. its worth it and necissary in my book. good luck.
