The affect of drugs on hair

How do drugs affect hair? Which drugs are bad for hair? Which drugs are safe to use on hair?

For New Years a bunch of my friends got some coke together and I was afraid to snort because I was worried it would affect my hair. I know this is a silly thing to think at a time like that. So now I'm asking, which drugs are safe, and which drugs increase the production of DHT?

I don't know if anybody actually knows, but if you do, please share.

I guess most drugs wont affect the scalp then. Though I hope they wont clash with Propecia.

re:

So you made the choice to avoid cocaine because of its possible effects on your hair and not because of its effects on your heart. That it priceless.

Coke isnt going to do anything to your hair. If you want to destroy your heart tissue, and be at risk for a heart attack in your 20's -- snort away.

Weed is actually a dht inhibitor, and its possible it could maintain your hair :D Thats definatly a safe one.

Drugs wont effect your hair either way. Some people on this forum have actually questioned wether drugs help your hair because they can lower testosterone levels. The only thing I can say is you're probably better off without them.

i cannot imagine cigarettes being good for hair, they restrict blood flow to the scalp, though they are not going to cause you to be bald either, probably detrimental though if you have male pattern baldness

various medications can cause hairloss however

And yet there was that one study that claimed to find an improvement in male pattern baldness from the ligature of scalp arteries! Weird, huh?

I knew plenty of drug users with no hair problems. It is genetic. A lot of anti-oxidants from extracts may slow it a bit, but nothing you do will have the effects propecia or topical DHT will have. I just hope no prankster out there sells a topical DHT shampoo but says it cheap RU shampoo. That would be messed up.

what is topical dht? sounds like it could be harmful.

and I think that the theory behind cigarettes being good for your hair are: they restrict blood flow, and dht is carried through the blood, so less blood getting circulated means less dht being circulated? this is most probably wrong.

or less blood circulating means that the dht that is produced in the scalp stays there longer...

I don't know where DHT is produced. I was under the impression it is produced somewhere, and transported within the blood. Is it made in the scalp?

OF COURSE it's made in the scalp. In more than one location in the scalp, in fact. In several other locations around the body, too.

Furthermore, some molecules of DHT that are produced leak out of the cells where they're made and go into the bloodstream, but that's not a particularly important effect. Most of the androgenic effect of DHT is produced by the "local" production of DHT right there inside androgen target tissues themselves. In other words, DHT doesn't have much of an endocrine role in the body.
