Given that two of my units went to hell after tape removal, cleaning and washing.

I wear their S7 unit, French Lace.

I have a feeling the adhesive from my tape is seeping up into the hair. Is that a real issue?

What should I do to best ensure the cleaning goes smoothly?

I'm thinking I should just wash it in the shower, keeping the piece on my head till the adhesive loses its tack.

Is it true that tape eventually breaks down into a mess? I don't want that to happen - sounds like an absolute pain.

When I was a newbie a year ago. The cleanup process was a big mess and very time-consuming. I made a mistake that did not let the liquid adhesive (Walker Ultra Hold) dry to tacky before getting the lace on the scalp. I didn't realize the adhesive seeps through the lace and get into the hair until a couple of weeks later after de-attach. It took hours using quite a lot of Walker Lace Release and C-22 to revive the damaged unit. After that bad experience, I switched to Walker non-residue Tape 1522 and Esha absolute or Ghosbond (for the hairline) and then all the cleanup nightmare went away. I'm wearing a skin base with Got2B now and the cleanup was even much easier.

I think you should try a UTS (skin), maybe with a lace front if that is important to you. Mine is all UTS and the clean-up is easy.

I have an all-poly unit. It has its perks but I prefer lace, as the skin unit isn't breathable.

I really should have gone with a PU-perimeter piece; I didn't because I find removing tape from poly to be rather difficult. With lace, I can simply spray alcohol into the lace, so that it goes through the hair, the lace and hits the tape.

II.

Does tape eventually break down into a gluey mess or does it remain intact for the duration of an extended wear? I really don't want to deal w/ that mess.
