Anyone experience this or have an idea why dutasteride would cause this? I've tried dutasteride a couple of times through the years and for some reason my temple points thin and it makes my hair look like even more garbage than it already is.

Maybe you are starting to go through a shed ( before regrowth) and you haven't given it a chance?

Yes, I experienced only on Avodart. That sh*t was a lot more potent than generics. Atleast for me. The first couple of weeks on it were good. It thickened my hair a lot more, took away ALL the male pattern baldness itch, but it also gave me virtually no libido, and it reduced my erection quality by 40%. The Worst side was it was thinning and shedding my hairline and temples. I have no 100% reason as to why, but I really think it must've been receptor up-regulation making my follicles more susceptible to small amounts of dht in the scalp. I naturally have really high testosterone, so I don't think the added test is what made my hairline and temples recede. You really need to add a topical anti-androgen to your regimen. That way you may be able to roll back to finasteride and use the topical aa to block the remaining scalp androgens and maintain pretty well on that.

What norwood are you currently? At one hand you say it thickened your hair but then you say it caused more recession? Which is it?

Norwood 1. In the beginning it thickened all hair, but after the initial couple weeks my hairline and temples started to recede. Very quickly. But this was only on Avodart. I was taking generic dutasteride, duprost, before trying Avodart, and didn't experience any hairline/temple recession what so ever. However with duprost, I was still shedding, although in small amounts, and experiencing that dreaded male pattern baldness itch. Now I'm on dutas and I'm not receding, but my overall scalp didn't feel as healthy as it did when I was on Avodart. It is feeling just as good or even better now that I've added RU58841.

I'm a diffuse thinner, btw. Which is why I'm able to retain a teenage hairline.

So you'r still taking avodart now? Hows your crown/mid scalp looking? What would you rate the experience with avodart 1-10?

I'm not taking avodart. I switched to dutas. Crown and mid scalp are still thick, but I've lost density. It isn't noticeable because I still have good density and hair thickness. Hmmm...I would say in terms of overall hair quality it was the best drug I've taken. The hairs just felt and looked so much thicker, shinier and it stopped the shedding. So I'd give it a 9/10 for that. But for your hairline/temples, I receded a bit. I'd say .3inches on the hairline and temples. So for your hairline/temples, I'd give it a 0/10. Overall, 4.5/10. I'd much rather salvage my hairline and temples and lose out on general density/thickness of the top of my head.
The times I tried it before were 9+ months. I feel like I had a similar experience to the other guy in this thread: at the beginning hair was a bit improved but as time went by it made my hair look like absolute garbage.

Yes, I went from a norwood 0.5 to a 1. Made the angle connecting the temple to hairline more pushed back and angular.

Well, I'm not sure if it's "official" as in it's not in the medical texts, but who gives a f***. But it is generally a really low hairline. The temples aren't angular, but rounded where it meets the hairline-- like a females. It has no recession what so ever. If I can recede a good bit but still be classified as a good norwood 1 with no noticeable temple/hairline, there has a be such a thing as a norwood 0. The difference with norwood 0's is that not everyone can be a norwood 0. You're born with it. Just like being born 7ft tall. Everyone is usually naturally at a nw1.
