temple follicles probably die immediately

i believe that the temple-area follicles die very soon after the dht impact on them. Thats why the cure in that area hasnt got results. Besides if you look at a completely bald guy you will see that the colour on his scalp skin is different in the temples than on the vertex, maybe because the follicles have been completely removed by his body... who knows...

Some of the hair on my temples and the rest of my head is growing back after over twenty years of full male pattern baldness. I do not know yet what the extent of the regrowth will be, I will report back over the months ahead, but it is more than I expected last year when I started my experiments. Am I unique?

Boru, no I don't think that you are unique in this. The treatment that I've been on for the last three years has helped to fill in and strengthen my temples too.

Thanks Greg
I thought I was out on a lonely limb. It would be interesting to compare notes. For the past year I have used saw palmetto, proscar, minoxidil, laser comb, scalp exercises (for the past 20 years) and various herbal and other supplements which may or may not be a factor. I don't take vitamin and mineral supplements though, as I get these from my veggie "superfoods". I tried an inverter for several months but it strained my ankles!
But I have constructed a combination device, which I have mentioned briefly elsewhere. I cannot describe in any great depth just yet.
Firstly, I cannot prove that it is helping the follicles, second the components are expensive and I don't want to inspire a desperate spending spree by those who will try anything.
Also, I am having "discussions" with the various manufacturers
whose "components" I have slotted together, re patent possibilities. However this side of the story is all horribly expensive and complicated.
I don't want to be an accidental rep for any of these companies, just on the off-chance I have actually invented something unique. We are all doing our own individual experiments, teaching the old dog new tricks!
I believe I am at the early stage of recovery, with greater potential to follow.
Now here is a funny observation. I have told several of my younger friends how they might be able to stop their hair loss, or grow some back like me. All of them said that they didn't mind going bald, accepting the inevitable, one even said that he preferred me bald! Perhaps most men are just too lazy to give it a go. The members of discussion sites like this are at least trying to look after their hair. Necessity being the mother of invention, we all need to re-invent ourselves.
Best thing to keep in mind, there is a cure, there really is, maybe only a partial cure, for now, but if we all put our heads together we might be able to increase the potential.

about the temple area

What we refer to as "temples" is actually the hairline above the temples. And yes, it is the most DHT-sensitive part of the scalp - so much so that some portion of it succumbs to DHT even in the typical non-balding man (what we call the mature hairline, analogous to NW2).
As for the temple skin having a different colour as compared to the vertex skin, it may be related to the earlier death of follicles (not sure about this). The follicles don't actually DIE until very late in the balding process - I read on a transplant site that the follicle death in a particular area starts only when the area is practically slick bald, rather than just starting to thin! Most balding and bald people (except long-standing NW7s)
have roughly the same follicular density as they had in the pre-balding state. It is the quality of the follicles which is much worse than before.
Anyway, since the temples generally bald first, well before the top or the crown start to thin, obviously follicular death will occur earlier there.
Cheers,
Arjun

I don't think follicles actually die until you are seriously old. Rather, the shaft of the hair becomes so fine that eventually it is unable to penetrate the surface of the skin. This is what has happened to the follicles in the slick-bald areas.

Even though I've had suprisingly good results, my temples are definately the "weak point" and required hair transplant to fix.

There was some regrowth, but nothing more than very small vellus really.

I am a Norwood 6 and am experiencing temple growth in areas where I first went bald. In other words areas of my scalp that have had no hair growing there for at least 10 years.

my temples are filling in quite nicely on only 2.5-3 months on minoxidil/finasteride.
