Telogen effluvium - is this still diffuse hair loss or male pattern baldness?

Hi guys, been to dermo's twice over the past 9 months. both say I have Telogen Effluvium rather than male pattern baldness (without any tests - apart from hair pull). I have no genetic history of male pattern baldness and am 23. I did have major jaw surgery about 9 months before my first dermo appointment which was one of the reasons for their diagnosis i think.
Still a lot of hair falling out every day. I do have a lot of thinning - but it "seems" to be quite diffuse and all over, rather than receding and purely at the crown. but im starting to freak out a little bit again b/c it doesn't seem to be getting any better only worse!

There has been a LOT thinning in these photos - but really don't know whether is Telogen Effluvium or they are wrong and it is male pattern baldness, and I'm not sure how to conclusively find out. I use to have quite thick hair.

(the first two photos are taken with wet hair and flash, third one no flsah and dry hair)

any thoughts?

That looks like male pattern baldness to me. Everyone's "pattern" is a bit different. Yours looks like it's diffuse all over the top.

Any other thoughts?

It annoys me as I have been to two different dermos already, which basically have just said the same thing - just wait it out, its just Telogen Effluvium/CTE. Being stressed about it probably doesn't help the situation.. but I'd like to find out for sure !

Another photo.
Has anyone any different views? I think I might have to go back to another dermo to see if they want to change their diagnosis, which will make 3 in about 8 months grr

Really don't know what to say, other than hair loss is hair loss. To me, when hair starts thinning it looks the same, no matter the cause. Don't think anyone, especially non-professionals, could just look at your thinning and determine why.

To my understanding the only way to find out, is to wait and see if it just keeps getting worse.

Don't just go to any dermatologist though, ask around and find one that knows their stuff. I've heard it's hard to find one who really cares a whole lot about hair loss.

you have started to loose your hair in the same pattern as me bro....
as the back looks to be still dense i would say its not Telogen Effluvium but male pattern baldness

what is your hair line like?

also is the sides of your head (i.e outside the horseshoe pattern starting to thin?)

Hey mashang, ive attached a couple of pics of my hairline. not sure how good/bad it is, can't really tell, as I've only really been keeping an eye on it recently...

Also not sure that my sides/back are getting noticeably thin like the top, but if I pull my hand through back/sides i always get a few hairs come out easily and i've also started noticing eyebrow hairs falling out on my desk on ocassion, and they pull out fairly easily.. not sure if this is normal?

It makes no sense why Telogen Effluvium would just effect the area most guys lose hair. Telogen Effluvium is usually more random or all over your head.
