System Color Change - Oxidation Solutions?

Hi,

I have been wearing a system (just on the crown) since the last three months. It is through Hairclub. Been reading these forums last few days. Hairclub is not popular over here :) I went with them because I did not want to do it myself initially and they have a salon literally a mile away from where I live.

Coming to the question. I am on my second system now. I had the first system for about 8 weeks. I have a problem with changing color on my system. My real hair is very black. The first system I got was alright regarding that and it only started changing its hue to a reddish tint towards week 6 or 7. The second one I got started changing color from the second week itself and I did not expose it in the sun any more or less than the first time. The difference in color is showing up as I have a good amount of my real hair still left on the front, sides and back.

The reddish tint is really visible under a proper light. I even got a question today at my work place if I tried to color my hair. I have a vacation coming up and there will be a decent bit of sun exposure there. I am worried it will become visibly very obvious then. Are there any solutions to this? Can I color my hair using those over the counter hair color solutions?

Thanks!

Hi man,

As you have noted, the reddish tinge is a kind of sun damage. You can buy colour-correcting shampoos and conditioners which will take out the redness by applying a green tint. Hair Direct have a selection, but you can also sometimes get them at the local pharmacy or supermarket, because women who dye their hair have the same problem. The other thing you can do is try to prevent it happening, or at least slow it down, by applying a leave-in conditioner containing a good sun screen (SPF 30+) every day. To some extent, the speed of discolouration reflects the quality of the hair being used.

If it has got really noticeable you might have to re-dye the hairpiece, but be careful not to get the dye on the base.

Thanks a lot Noah for the response! I will try those solutions and check if they work.

I have one more question if you don’t mind. What are the effects of salt water on the system? Is it ok for me to swim in the ocean for a short amount of time. Does it break down the adhesive a lot?

Thanks!

Is it okay to just put the coloring conditioner on with hand or do you really have to carefully comb it inside with a fine tooth comb?
