I posted this on the other board but no one responded.

Anyway, I know many of you take other "generic" finastride. I'm currently taking .75 mg of Propecia. I'm heading towards month 4 of treatment. I started with .25 mg on month one, .50 mg on month two, and now I'm on .75 on month 3. I might graduate up to 1 mg, but the first thing I noticed after I got up to .75 mg is that Propecia is fricken expensive. I've seen some results I think, as I have also added Nizoral and Rogaine this last month. It would crush me to lose ground if I switch. Also, I've been going pretty good with minimal sides (knocks on wood). I'm scared if I switch that I'm goign to shed and its goign to be as if starting from scratch. I'm also scared of taking a cheaper drug that will cause worse sides.

Does anyone recommend me to switch over? Has anyone here switched over from Propecia, and if so what was the change in your progress/hair density and what was the change in your sides? Also, what brand would you recommend to switch to? Thanks!!

I was on Proscar 1/4 from my doctor for 2 years. I switched to fincar 1/4. No shed. I have grafts in front, so I think I'd notice if line formed between the grafts and the native hair behind. Though some days it is hard to tell how thin it is. I tell it can be stressful not knowing. Maybe I have thinned, maybe finasteride is not strong enough, maybe it is fake, maybe it is real and I have not thinned but just always was thin. Who knows. Proscar 1/4 is affordable, just not as affordable as Fincar. It is the prescription cost that is annoying.

I advise you not to do it. Buying generics on the Internet is always risky. If you want to save money, buy Proscar and cut it into 4ths. That's what I've been doing for the last ten years with good results.

So there is no other finaesteride to get in the US besides Proscar or Propecia? How much of a difference in Proscar in price? I can't get Fincar or Finpecia through a prescription here? I'd be willing to do the switch and go throught the cutting, since I have been doing that anyway, I just don't want to see my hair or sides get worse because of it.

You can get generic 5mg finasteride at your local pharmacy with a doctor's prescription.
